For you 40k players out there - can Crisis units keep up with mechanised tau formations? I ask as I managed to finally have a curtailed Tau game this morning on Vassal and my are those crisis a bit slow. Especially if you think their missile pods shouldn't have their range artificially stretched. Likewise the Drones seem to stop units garrisoning. Would it not be better to have a base move of 15cm and a jet pack move of 15cm? Then I could garrison them forward (or garrison them with firewarriors if mixed together) and hit the enemy at the same time as the mech troops do. |

Well you've got 12" move of the FW vs 6" + 6" move of Crisis Suits with shooting in between. So I suppose the answer to that question is yes. As to the implications for the Epic list I'll leave them for more competent people to examine. |

Alternatively the Crisis could stay at the 20cm move (same as df when advancing, falling behind when they double) and just assume they turn up after the FW get shot ![]() |

In 5th edition, on foot, Fire Warriors can move 6 inches. If they do not shoot that turn, they can "run" D6 extra inches, but may not engage in an assault, which is usually suicidal anyway. Crisis may move 6 inches, shoot, then move 6 additional inches. |

And Devilfishes can remain stationary and fire all weapons, move 6" and fire one weapon (plus all weapons whith Strength 4 or less which no of the Devilfishs weapons has)or move 12" and fire no weapons. |

Thanks BL, I was more wondering about if they could keep up with the mechanised firewarrors (sorry never occurred to me in 40k they would come without transports). |

BL, you're right (for 5e), but let's be honest: GW completely screwed up the Defensive Weapons rule in 5e (should be Strength 5 and below, not S4 and below). In 4e, the tactic of the day for mech FW was to advance 12", jump out of the Devilfish (within 12" of target unit), and shoot the stuffing out of said target unit, with fire support from the Dfish (either BC+gun drones or BC+SMS, BC+SMS was just evil). Crisis suits can advance just as fast as a Devilfish (or any other vehicle, for that matter) in 40k, but they are slower in dense terrain. They ideally dart from cover to a shooting position to cover (since they have a move-shoot-move ability), so can end up near-stationary if the best cover is where they were before they shot. I've also used their mobility to dart across open areas, but that's less likely to happen on most 40k tables (due to player's fear of terrain-on-table) |
