Well, thought I'd start a thread that would allow people to post links to their playtest games/battle reports. I've gotten in two games with Tau v5.1 this week. Tau vs Alaitoc Eldar - 3000 points Tau vs Steel Legion - 4000 points Hope to see more fights here soon! ![]() |

Just as a follow-up, here's been the general response of my opponents to recent Tau games: Anyway, all my opponents have now made the same comments about the Tau: "For being 'the shooty' army... they're not actually that shooty."  One opponent even suggested putting "2 x " in front of all their shooting attacks.  *laugh* I've been "out-gunned" for points by almost every other army I've faced... *AND* they've had the option to engage with conviction if they desire. The idea of getting Fire Warriors up close for a "decisive round of shooting" just doesn't happen on the battlefield unless you commit your army to doing that... and the enemy is *still* ripping you apart as you try it.  And any enemy worth his/her salt is going to hit Markerlight units as quickly as possible... and it's *not* a waste of firepower for them to do it either, so it's pretty tough to maintain volume of fire if relying on Markerlights. |

I ran a small game to refresh myself and my oldest son with the rules and start fiddling around with the Tau. Scenario: We each took four formations: SM: LR formation, Assault formation, tactical formation, Whirlwind formation Tau: Crisis cadre, FW cadre, HH cadre, Stingray + Skyray support cadre So roughly 1100 pts per side. Some will note the obvious glaring weakness in my list. I didn't pick up on it till later. Short summary: Tau win (2-0). The WWs hammered the FW formation, so I slowly moved them up to a group of objectives on my right. The Assault formation engaged my Stingrays in FF (after LRs placed BM, no kills surprisingly), killed a couple, won the combat and I lost everything else in resolution. I then realized that I had no other ML units which made me smile. Thankfully, the HH's and Crisis stepped in and whacked the WWs and Assault formation. The HHs also withstood some fire from the LRs, bruised them, and then secured the objectives on my side. The Crisis were also very effective in this game. At the end I had Blitz and Hold the Line. Anyway a fun quick game. |

So the stealths did no first strike hits in the assault with the Assault Marines? Interesting that the AMHC and Broadsides sat back in a "gunline" the whole game - because of the Terminators I assume? The Terminator white fm basically held up 2 whole formations. I'm not sure about tacking the tetras onto the crisis suits was great addition to that fm. |

They couldn't first strike as its a small arms weapon and they were all in base to base. Hena has started a discussion thread Here. Best to comment there. |

finally one a game with the TAU. AND WON IT VERY WELL. i ditched all the units that have been doing not much in any of the games and put in more of the units that do something. have to say i ditched one unit of crisis , they stink as 4 man unit. but i put 2 more for 6 into the other unit. also i got rid of the planes. not doing what they should for the pionts, but i added 1 more tetra unit and another stingray unit with skyray.more later goto go |
