Okay, I've gotten in a mess of Tau games under v5.0... and I've always been taking a "Hero-class" spacecraft... it's an unsuppressable, undestroyable, unstoppable 2xMW2+ (TKD3) attack... for 150 points. No need for pre-plotting, the enemy can't be out of LOS, strip shields/fields with another formation, or hit war engines without shields, and you're doing a lot of damage. *AND* you can planetfall stuff on top of that if you really want to. I don't think I've seen it come up in many other reports, but I can't think of a reason not to spend the 150 points on it. Thoughts? |

I've been running Grey Knight Strike Cruisers with two pinpoints at 225 points and I'm not sure they're not too good. Yeah, the GK spacecraft have planetfall capacity and give GK formations Teleport, but 150 is cheap for two pinpoints. |

Because there is so much other stuff in the list to play with I haven't got that far yet.... ![]() |

Quote: (Hena @ 05 Mar. 2009, 19:08 ) Asaura would most likely agree. He tends to use it always (though it did have tracer missiles there back then). Oh yeah, for an extra 50 points *SIX* MW5+ attacks (using current Guided Missile rules) was also a no-brainer. The Custodian seems to have far less power... for *more* points! |

In addition to the attacks, you get to mess with the other guy's spacecraft. Hena, you surely recall the time when I deliberately retained initiative in order to have the Hero fail an activation, which meant that it disrupted your T-hawk ops on both turns 1 and 2. |

The only reason not to take it is that Tau have lots of monster TK options. For example, AX-1-0 cost about twice but can put the same amount of fire downrange nearly every turn. Even conservatively speaking, they ought to produce twice the TK fire and twice the activations over the course of a game. I just depends on what you expect to face. |

I've felt for a while that they either need to lose a shot or go up in price. It's a classic case of "Tau get the best stuff cheap" syndrome. |

Like I said, I've been running 2 pin-points for 225 and I feel like a cheesy git every time I waste someone's titan, so much so that I've been contemplating giving the damn thing a regular orbital bombardment. I don't think I will - the Grey Knights are otherwise somewhat lacking in long-ranged firepower, and I realise that makes it more valuble to them - but I would say the Lunar is perhaps the best spacecraft for the points out there. Two pinpoints seem a steal for 150 points to me. |

Quote: (Hena @ 05 Mar. 2009, 20:43 ) Though interesting reference is IG and their spacecraft. 1TK shot and 3BP barrage for 150 points. On Strategy Rating 2... so anyone else with a spacecraft can "bump" them from the first turn and making it much tougher to plot things... and, no transport capacity and nothing to drop for the Imperial Cruiser. |

Quote: (Hena @ 05 Mar. 2009, 20:43 ) AX has one shot and it's 3+ not 2+. So, the 5.0 army list is wrong that it's 2 for 350? |

The only reason not to take it is that Tau have lots of monster TK options LOL!! One aircraft with TK that can be easily shot down does not equate to lots of monster TK.... I agree that perhaps the Hero should at minimum be more like 175 points. Also don't forget to take into account that the spacedraft is a single dicey activation for the entire game. If you miss with the weapons(it has happened to me a few times) you have just wasted its points. This seems to be one of the reasons why spacecraft are reasonably cheap |
