Hi, I'm new to Epic and I'm almost finished building up a 2000 Point IG Steel Legion Army. I'm looking to start building up another army and I thought the Tau looked pretty cool. So, can anyone reccomend a 2000 Point army that is roughly equal to this; Steel Legion Infantry Company ? Command Unit + 12 Infantry Units ? 250 Points Sentinel Squadron Support Formation ? 4 Sentinels ? 100 Points Flak Battery ? Three Hydra ? 150 Points Steel Legion Infantry Company ? Command Unit + 12 Infantry Units ? 250 Points Ogryns ? 2 Ogryn Units ? 50 Points Steel Legion Tank Company ? 10 Leman Russ including Vanquisher ? 650 Points Super Heavy Tank Platoon ? 1 Baneblade ? 200 Points Super Heavy Tank Platoon ? 1 Baneblade ? 200 Points 2 Thunderbolt Fighters ? 150 Total: 2000 Points I know this is big to ask, but I really don't have a clue. I've also got another few questions; 1. Are the baneblades that FW sell ok for using in a Steel Legion army? What should I use (Mars pattern)? 2. Does the FW Tau come with bases? The IG list has a lot of armor. Tailoring a Tau force to counter that would be pretty easy: just stock up on Broadsides and Hammerheads. Let's avoid doing so and try to come up with something that'd be fun to play. First, almost all the FW Tau stuff is gorgeous. The Orca is a real looker. Get one. Then, go with one each of the core Cadre types: Fire Warriors, Crisis Suits and Hammerheads (pick the RG variant for looks). Then, you absolutely need some Pathfinders and some drones and some aircraft. Let's look at the list: 200 - Fire Warriors 250 - Crisis Suits 375 - Hammerheads 175 - Pathfinders 075 - Drones 100 - Orca 300 - Barracudas Total points so far 1475 We've got about 500 more to play with. Get some missile boats: Stingrays and Skyrays. 225 - Stingrays 125 - Stingray upgrade 075 - Skyray There's fifty points left, so there's some room left to play. If cost is not an issue, definitely buy some Kroot. You can use the Orca to transport the Crisis suits or the FWs or the Kroot; lot's of room for experimenting. The FW Tau do come with bases. It's good to prepare for some snapped ankles and the like, as the resin can be very brittle. Replacing damaged models with drones or just empty ground seems to work well. |

A number of the units in the Tau list dont have dedicated models - Stingrays, Swordfish, Morays, Scorpionfish, Heavy Drones, sniper teams, Vespids, etc Chroma is correct. I personally use the MissileHeads as Stingray. |

I keep harping on FW to sculpt a new turret to represent the Stingray (picture an enlarged Skyray turret, but with 4 quad-mounts like racks of Hellfire missiles, and bigger missiles)... I've got partial work done on a 40k-scale version, but until FW bites, use the missileheads. |
