Greetings Tau players,

I might buy some models by Forgeworld and therefore need to know what models are usually used:

Do you use the Hammerhead with missiles for the Stingray, or do you use the Skyray model?

Also what do you use for the Swordfish. Where do you get the weapons for the conversions? (you can only order complete models at Forgeworld)

Do you use the Missile Drone Turrets for the Robot Sentry Drone Turrets?

I'm happy for each of your answers

Hi. I can only tell you what I use.

Stingray - I use the Hammerhead with Missile Pod miniatures (MissileHeads). This stops them being confused with SkyRay.

Swordfish - This is a difficult one. I actually buy the parts to create my own, although this is expensive. It works out that each single Swordfish needs two RailHead and one MissileHead tank, making it seven pounds each!  :ghostface:  However, you can convert the left over hulls to Devilfish. Alternatively, you could use one of the other variants to proxy, or even just take a standard RailHead and add an extra Rail Cannon from plasticard to it.

Sentry Drone Turrets - I use the fusion blaster turrets. I then use the Burst Cannon turrets (just the tops) for heavy drones.

I hope that this helps.

@CyberShadow
Thanks for the answers.
Using the fusion blasters for the heavy drones is a good idea.
Is the conversion to Devilfish easy or do they look much different than the usual Devilfishes.

What weapons do you use for the Scorpionfish? (e.g. Orca+HH Missile+Skyray?? or 2xHH Missile)

Should the Scorpionfish be used anyway, or wouldn't it best to reduce the number of different units (drop e.g. Pirantha, Heavy and Sniper Drones, HH Iongun, Scorpionfish and Swordfish...)?

Generally, most people use an Orca for the Scorpionfish, with a Skyray missile rack added.

For example:

Personally, I use a BFG Emissary for my Scorpionfish.

For Swordfish, I simply used a Twin Linked Fusion Blaster Hammerhead and replaced the weapons with 40K Tau Pulse rifles. Its different enough to stand out and doesn't cost the earth (and its all Tau! ) - LINK to pics (about half way down).

I just use my Orca for a Scorpionfish.

What is the BFG Emissary?

For the Heavy Gun Drones: They have Multiple Burst Cannons as weaponry in the 4.4.2 List. So you probably mean the Burst Cannon Drone Turrets.

@Onyx
Fine Pics :-), thanks for the link.

My strategy would now be: Make all Devilfishes from other tanks, where the weapons can then be used for conversions.

How easy is it to work with the resine plastic, do you need special clue and knives....?

Hi. The Emissary is here:

Thanks CS, the Emissaries are a lot cheaper than the orcas (2 for 12P instead 1 for 16P). I guess they also fit well in size.

Well, I think so. However, purists (cough - Chris!) say that the Emissary is a little small. I think that it is a perfrct size.

Just look at it! :)

How large would the Orca be in comparison to the Emissary (for use as scorpionfish)?

I think would by the Orca as Scorpionfish!

I'm now looking for the Moray. I don't like the BFG Custodian very much (as Epic figure). What's about the Protector, is it too small for a Moray?

Second question: What do you use for the sniper drone team?
