You proposal has a main flaw, it is in Range of other units when it wants to fire, I need at least 75cm! :D  :p

I should also point out that the points value ofthe unit may be marginally low. Not trying to mess things up, but just warning against an outcry if this needs addressing.  :p

How do You define marginally? They would come to a similar level as FW ( 8 for 200 , plus 4 additional at 100 Points =300 for 12) and the Vespids come with 225 for 9.

You kidding? :) Since when hae I ever expressed a liking of bugs! I'll stick to my crisis and pathfinders thanks!

CS if its a bit low why not make it 175 for the basic formation? Personally from a deign point of view I always like it if additional unit upgrades are cheaper stand for stand as it encourages larger units and keeps activations a bit more under control.

Always better to start high as well after all.

I tend to agree. Under the given stats, I find them a bit overcosted when comparing them to Firewarriors.

+ More movement
- Less firepower/ max range
- Weaker armor
- No markerlights

They need to be cheaper, at the risk of making them expandable. So we may as well give them extra bite.

I'd still suggest possibly adding a Strain Director (with Leader) as part of the stand-alone formation.

I would tend to agree with that idea.  The other Alien Aux. have a built in "officer type".  It makes sense for a background perspective as they would surely have some sort of command person to lead them in the battle etc.  And the Leader ability would seem best as it helps with the BM situation that Tau formations can suffer from.

That is fair enough, but I would like to keep an eye on how often these guys were then taken as an upgrade simply to benefit from the Leader ability applied to Tau infantry units. I would worry that Vespid Strain Leaders start to become a standard addition at 75 points just for the Leader ability, calming down the Tau and organising them (which doesnt feel right).

The strain director could [or IMO should], of course, only be open to full 'Auxilliary' formations. Those Stingwings appended to Cadre-level Tau forces would be under nominal command of the respective Shas'el or Shas'o.

That is just what I came here to clarify.  :blush:

So:
6 units + leader = 150 points (contingent)
3 units = 75 points (upgrade)

As a note, their 'additional integration' into the Tau way of war is represented by them being available as a contingent rather than an alien auxiliary formation.
