*Gal'leath (Explorer) - would probably be better suited counting as a Custodian, for games set before the Kor'or'vesh (Kor'or'vesh = development program for the Custodian and other resin ships)

The list currently says, "EXPLORER CLASS CARRIER (VASH?YA CONFIGURATION) ? counts as Hero class cruiser."

You are calling it Gal'learth. I admit to not being a BFG buff (remember, we use it for supplimental purposes) so I'm not challening you as I'm sure you know more about BFG than I do, but I'm asking... why are you chaning from Vash'ya to Gal'learth?

Remember we are post 13th crusade colonisations here as well.

Waiting for your response before this will be changed...

*Orbital bombardment - the Custodian would have 3BP worth of firepower.

Hmm... I have the following for Orbital Bombardment... which one are you referencing?

Explorer (Vash?ya or Bork?an)
Merchant (Ke?lshan or Dal?yth)
Hero (Vash?ya)
Hero (T?olku)

Waiting for your response before this will be changed...

A cleanup for the Lar'shi and Or'es El'leath fluff:

LAR'SHI (HERO) CLASS CRUISER

You did it to me again. The Hero listed is a Vash'ya... why are you describing a Lar'shi?

Waiting for your response before this will be changed...

OR'ES El'LEATH (CUSTODIAN) CLASS BATTLESHIP

The recent rapid expansion of the Tau Empire has substantially increased external pressure on the Kor'vattra - the Tau space navy. [/quote]
"Substancially", I like - that's changed.
"External Pressure", I like - that's changed.

"Tau Space navy" instead of "Tau Fleet" - I don't like, Tau Fleet stays unless you can convince me otherwise! (poetic license doesn't count!) ;)

The Kor'vattra's early setbacks against the Imperial Navy during the Lithesh War, as well as the emerging threat of the Tyranid splinter fleets, had called into question the Kor'vattra's prior engagement tactics.

Good, but kept outrider and eliminated Lithesh War reference to reduce words. Its in, but Tweaked a bit.

The very best Fio scientists of the T'au Sept were given whatever they needed to create a new 'experimental' fleet - in a program known as the Kor'or'vesh, the single largest reallocation of resources in the Empire's history - incorporating lessons learned from the Tau's allies and experience in fleet combat into a new series of starships.

Hmm... very long sentence and Fio wasn't explained. Folks new to tau won't know what Fio is. I tried to make it a bit easier to read as well. LMK what you think when you see it. I don't think I screwed it up, but you can be the judge. ;)

The Or'es El'leath (Custodian) battleship is the largest starship class of this next generation of Tau vessels, the Kor'vattra Qath'fannor - the Commerce Protection Fleet. It is a huge carrier, transporting squadrons of Barracuda fighters and Manta Missile Destroyers, which fly in support of the rest of the Tau fleet. When providing close support to planetary landings or other ground-based campaigns, it can bring its powerful shipboard Ion Cannons to bear against enemy war engines. In addition, its prow Gravitic Launcher is capable of launching waves of Tracer Missiles to the surface, guided to their targets by allied Markerlight-armed ground units, in order to maximize their ability to lay waste to suitable enemy formations.

I liked this fairly well known Tau wording... "In keeping with the Shas'ar'tol's and Kor'vattra's shared concept of surgical warfare"... :(

However, I took used your second paragraph just as written because it sounds better. :)

Cheers,

RE: XV88 armament.

It's the same in V1 and I don't ever rememeber it being queried either, so I thought I'd just make sure we haddn't collectively dropped the ball.

Thanks for the clarification, my bad.  I don't play 40k and, despite having a copy of the codex (which I've just checked) I hadn't picked up the difference between a missle pod and a smart missile system.  I just assumed that because they looked the same then they were the same.  (Damn WYSIWYG!)

Given that the weapons have basically the same stats I don't think it's worth making a change.

Heh, "or what." :)

Jervis has contacted me once to tell me thanks for the contact and that I'm in the consideration for the position, but no word since. That was some time ago.

I've contacted him a couple times this week as he said there was going to be an official position posted this week for the Tau list - but no word to me.

So - I'm just your friendly humble volunteer public servant and Tau List Document guy. I have caste my offer to Jervis for the role and have sent him an email to this thread so he can download the current version of the list at anytime for review.

I do not know if he's checking the emails as I've not heard him since he initially contacted me.

For now, I'm just an enthusiest like the rest of you doing the best I can to move development forward.

Col_Sp,

Agreed, another one of those minor abstractions/consessions between systems, but this one works well as is from playtest.

RE: BFG Ships

Tac:  Vash'ya is a sept, in fact my avatar is a Vash'ya sept mon of my own design.

From a BFG list:

NAMING TAU SHIPS

As with many things the Tau adopt a very structured approach to naming their vessels. Each ship or squadron?s name is made up of a series of elements.

The first element is the Sept responsible for building the ship or squadron.

The second element is the ship?s class name. The third element is the personal name of the ship or squadron?s first commander. This will always be an air caste member of Kor?ui rank or higher.

The fourth element is the personal name of the ship or squadrons current commander. This is omitted if it is the same as the third element. Thus Dal?yth Gal?leath A?proh M?lath is an Explorer class vessel built by on the Dal?yth, first commanded by Kor?O A?proh and now commanded by Kor?ui M?lath

As Vash'ya (Between Shperes) is famed for it's long Kor caste tradition a lot of ships originate from here.  Lar'shi'vre, Gal?Leath, Il?porrui, Il'fannor etc are all class names.

PM me your e-mail and I can send you the Tau CPF list that you can't get from SG anymore.  The other one is here: http://www.specialist-games.com/battlef....Tau.pdf

Hi!

Supplementary purposes? Hmm... (I'm contributing to the Tau CPF development too, so they are complementary to me!)

Anyway, your questions:

The metal Tau capital ships have different configurations based on the Sept which develops that particular weapon load for the ship. Hence, the configuration of the Lar'shi (Hero) class cruiser we have in the list is the Vash'ya configuration, because that particular ship's loadout of 4 Ion Cannon (which for EpicA = 2PPA) was first constructed at the Sept of Vash'ya, while the T'olku configuration, which we're not using in the proper list, replaced the Ion Cannon with more Railguns (which is only useful to the Epic list in the Collectors section, as Railguns = Orbital Bombardment)

The resin Tau ships, on the other hand, have no alternate configurations, as they are not designed to be modular (with the possible exception of the Emissary class, which need not concern us in Epic!), the class name is sufficient.

Gal'leath (no r) is the Tau name for the Explorer class starship, not one of its configurations. The Vash'ya Mark XXIII configuration of the Explorer we use is the one chosen because it has more launch bays - the Bor'kan Mark XXIV variant loses half of its launch bays for a strength 8 missile salvo... which we could add in the Collector's section if you want!

You don't have the Custodian - or the other resin capital ships, for that matter - in that list so far, that's why it would have to be added as a new ship, the specs for the Tau spacecraft for Epic are as follows (the ones with the asterix are not in the standard list and only need to go in the Collector section, as do the BP values, of course!):

Custodian - 3BP, 1PPA, 8 Tracers, 6 Mantas, Slow and Steady
Hero (Vash?ya) - 2BP, 2PPA, 6 Tracers, 2 Mantas
*Protector - 3BP, 2PPA, 4 Tracers, 1 Manta
*Emissary (diplomatic variant) - 2BP, 4 Tracers
*Emissary (fleet variant) - 2BP, 4 Tracers, 1PPA
*Explorer (Vash?ya) - 3BP, 8 Mantas, Slow and Steady
*Explorer (Bor'kan) - 3BP, 8 Tracers, 4 Mantas, Slow and Steady
*Merchant (Ke?lshan) - 3BP
*Merchant (Dal'yth) - 3BP, 1PPA
*Hero (T?olku) - 6BP, 6 Tracers, 2 Mantas

Lithesh War = Damocles Gulf Crusade, the masterclass for the Tau in How The Imperial Navy Works, hence its noted importance.

Fio can be explained in the opening Tau fluff - just put the Tau caste names beside the English translations (Por = Water, Aun = Ethereal etc) - in fact the names are already there to see in the fluff, so you don't need to drop the Fio reference.

Also, it may be useful, not least for the bounty of relevant fluff, to read the following pdf:

Anything I missed?

Ha...

Oh, Tactica, I changed the Hero fluff too, as it is the pinnacle of Tau modular construction, as it's the most advanced of the metal ships, but it's not as advanced as the new resin fleet.

Also, I wanted to include the reference to the Ileath'fannor (metal fleet list)...

One other thing, and don't take this as a personal shot (it isn't, I respect your work on he list) but there are a few spelling errors and so on in the modifications you made, things like 'earth Caste', 'Battery's' (and I told you the railguns aren't used for pin-point attacks!), 'it's prow gravitic launcher' etc... sorry if I'm nitpicking!

Nerroth,

No worries.

Your not nit-picking, your being complete and accurate. That's greatly appreciated. I just wanted to show you what I was thinking. You tweak from there and we'll go with it. ;)

Cheers,

Alright, go with this for the Hero:

LAR'SHI (HERO) CLASS CRUISER - VASH'YA CONFIGURATION

In the Kor'vattra Ileath'fannor - Commerce and Exploration Fleet, the fleet of starships which has served the Empire since its first expansion into space - the Lar'shi(Hero) is the pinnacle of modular Tau stellar technology. Designed as a match for Imperial ships of the line, it is a powerfully gunned cruiser capable of facing most cruiser-sized opposition in space, being the first large starship the Tau built for the sole purpose of combat. In addition to its numerous weapon systems, it has troop transport capabilities and can deploy several Moray assault ships, Orca dropships or even the huge Manta Missile Destroyers by planetfall.

In keeping with the Shas'ar'tol's and Kor'vattra's shared concept of surgical warfare, Tau starships eschew the massed orbital bombardment strikes used by other spaceborne races during ongoing ground battles, to avoid friendly fire accidents and collateral damage - as they normally don?t wish to destroy what they are fighting for. Instead, they employ highly accurate pin-point attacks and ship-launched Tracer Missles to take out enemy formations and war engines with high precision.

And this for the Custodian:

OR'ES El'LEATH (CUSTODIAN) CLASS BATTLESHIP

The recent rapid expansion of the Tau Empire has placed massively increased pressure on the Tau fleet, the Kor'vattra. The Kor'vattra's early setbacks against the Imperial Navy during the Lithesh War, as well as the emerging threat of the Tyranid splinter fleets, had called Kor'vattra's prior engagement tactics into question. The very best Fio(Earth) Caste scientists of the T'au Sept were tasked with developing the program known as the Kor'or'vesh, incorporating new technologies and combat doctrines into a new series of starships.

Change the Explorer to count as a Custodian, mark the variant shown as the Vash'ya configuration:

GAL'LEATH (EXPLORER) CLASS CARRIER - MARK XXIII VASH?YA CONFIGURATION ? counts as Custodian Battleship

You may or may not want to include the option to switch to the Mark XXIV Bork'an config (which halves its Manta loadout but gets a str8 Tracer salvo)

In the Orbital Bombardment section, put this in:

Weapon Range Firepower Notes
Custodian n/a 3BP Macro-weapon
Explorer (Vash?ya or Bor'kan) n/a 3BP Macro-weapon
Hero (Vash?ya) n/a 2BP Macro-weapon
Hero (T'olku) n/a 6BP Macro-weapon

Notes: The Bor'kan variant Explorer may only carry 4 Mantas but possesses 8 Tracer Missiles. The T'olku variant Hero has no Pin-point Attacks.

Perhaps a third post with Other Tau Capital Ships could be included here, all you'd need to put would be:

*Protector - 3BP, 2PPA, 4 Tracers, 1 Manta
*Emissary (diplomatic variant) - 2BP, 4 Tracers
*Emissary (fleet variant) - 2BP, 4 Tracers, 1PPA
*Merchant (Ke?lshan) - 3BP
*Merchant (Dal'yth) - 3BP, 1PPA

Notes: BP attacks only used in same circumstances as those for other Tau starships.

Or something.

Gary

Or I can do up an Epic spec for each Tau capital ship separately, if you prefer...

Just on a side note in regard to the layout of the playtest .pdf:  Would it be possible to remove the solid black title/header bars?  Perhaps just change them to "no fill" or something, they're eating up a tonne of ink each time I've got to print out an update.

Thanks!
