They're not named differently, they're Landspeeder (Codex), Landspeeder (Tornado), Landspeeder (Typhoon), etc. They all come from a single formation choice anyways. 
That's the same as Hammerhead (Railgun), Hammerhead (Ion cannon), Hammerhead (Nerf gun), etc.
As to IG turret changing on Chimeras, well I don't see why not, as long as suitable points values could be found... remember Chimmeros, Chimeraxi, etc? The points values don't have to be tournament-legal, but then, 99% of games aren't played at tournaments.

Land speeders used to have 2 variants in E:40k, under E:A they have 3 variants.
I don't think naming conventions should be a problem for anyone remotely experienced in wargaming, especially as the models are fully and clearly WYSIWYG.
