fearless is pretty much a no brainer imho, something that big should always be fearless.

I`m tempted to propose the Manta as an WE Aircraft Bomber which can be targeted as an always popped up Skimmer. So every AT, MW an TK weapon can shoot at it not only AA attacks.

Even if it will regularly delay and come as late in the turn as possible?

An almost unkillable aircraft with heavy firepower seems like it could cause a lot of difficulties balancing.

Well...yes
An other idea i had was that the Manta arrrives on the table like an Aircraft but then behaves like a WE Skimmer for the rest of the game (so it can't disengage).

The "No-More-Special-Rule" Police might take you in for questioning on that one  :vD

I'd also point out that you could put 20 Kroot inside it (if if goes to the 20 transport thats suggested, other wise you can still pack in a bunch of them) and that with Manta support is quite an air assault (the Marines IP lawyers will be in touch with you about that!)

I don't believe a Hero is worth any more than 200pts

Heroes are able to transport a lot of units, and lay two fantastic pin-point strikes on the enemy, 200pts is very definitely on the low end of the points scale for their abilities, I think.

clausewitz has covered my thoughts on the Hero costs well and his points are VERY valid.

Surely it should be fearless?

Surely it should be fearless?

Very probably.

As I said before, I believe several abilities/weapons were edited/removed to keep the cost down and because several, vocal members, insisted that the Manta did not have the firepower of a Warlord but rather a Reaver.

Shouldn't Kroot be barred from travelling in a Manta? I'm pretty sure they are in W40k.

Perhaps some might sometimes, but they presumably have their own atmospheric-space transports they'd more use (they do have their own spacecraft). I'd imagine them more scouting and sneaking about about on the ground (they have those baggage Knarlocs to help travel long distances and that), rather than coming down mid-battle in a massive great target. Also Knarlocs; can you really imagine the Tau wanting such vast dumb ferocious and temperamental beasts on board a Manta?

Why was that out of curiousity? Isn't the best option to translate the W40k version as what a Manta is, whether that end up being equivalent to a Reaver or a Warlord.

I was on the side of having the Manta be given its proper armament from the background/40k, instead of the previous armament which was an Epic-only armament.

The fact that I once saw a previous version of the Manta take down a fully shielded Warlord Titan from a standing start affected my opinion not at all.   :(

Well in Apocalypse they definitely aren't, but then Manta could transport Terminators in Apocalypse.

In IA3... checking... actually they aren't either (surprisingly enough). It can transport Tau warriors which are defined as Fire Warriors, Stealth Suits, Gun Drones, Pathfinders and Kroot.

Ok sorry, bad memory!

I do think they are Reaver power level firepower wise - 3 seekers doesn't change that.
