No problem Zombo, I thought maybe the "Taros" book had Epic rules for some reason ?  ???   Well, I'd like to see a Tau list in hard copy like "Raiders". That being said, it should include stats from everything that F/W makes, at least. I'm not real concerned about Fluff or Story line. Just Stats, TO&Es, etc. And since there is a number of different ideas on some Tau units, maybe include some as Optional and/or   Advanced rules ?  Just my thoughts ... :D

Just to add a bit of contrast to the general feeling of this thread, I played a game with my Tau the other day and got utterly, unspeakably thrashed :D (by alansa's space marines).

Now I've only played a few games with the Tau to date, so don't really know exactly what I'm doing with them yet, but it hasn't seemed to me that they're too far from balanced so far.

Are the crisis suits really that overpowered? Their firepower is pretty limited, so if they want to cause much damage they need to get up close. Even with the 10cm jump back they are then at risk of getting caught in a firefight against most enemies (even though they can almost always avoid close combat).

I understand the point made above about moving up to clip a formation with your crisis shooting, so that only a few of the enemy are within your 15cm range. You hopefully kill those with your MW shots, so that you don't leave any living enemies within 20cm (the effective infantry engagement range, taking into account the 10cm jump back).

This sounds pretty nifty, but there are risks involved aren't there? You have to make sure you kill the targets with your shooting, and it would only work against slow enemies such as infantry, so your targets are pretty limited. You could make it work against mech inf formations by destroying the transport, but they may still be able to engage you by leaving some infantry behind or racing some tanks ahead.

It'd be great if one of the guys with more experience playing with (or against) the Tau could give a detailed example of what the jet packs did in a game that made them so good. Not a battle report, but a a kind of 'they did this, then they did this, then I tried to do this and they jumped out of the way and it all ended in tears'. ?:)

As I said, yes it does.

I posted this summary report a while back...

TauVSM

Interestingly, given the subjects being discussed here, my success came from leveraging firepower from Scorpionfish and a Moray and jump packs to escape assaults. (Though I also used *shock* a FW cadre to great effect)

*shrug*

That's how the Tau win their games.

Scorpionfish hide out of LOF and bombard, Morays stay out of range and kill anything that enters your table half, and jetpackers (Crisis Suits) harass you and remain un-engageable.

All three tactics are over-strong, especially the jet-pack 'can't catch me' rule.
