Salut Guys,

after a long time beeing absent and trying to find the new Board, which I finally did :D , I must say a lot is going on in Epic-Land.

Was just rushing through the thread, whats the problem with the Ion-HH having AA? I opt to stay with that function, ?cause I don?t take each game a Skyray just to fill the Ranks. In a full scale Battle of more than 3500 Points , I agree that there will be a lot of AA-Coverage from the Tau side , but so can be on others too. So can someone summarize this thread for me?

Cheers!
Steele

Steele lives!  Welcome back!

It seems that the problem some are having is that an Ionhead is something of a 'no-brainer' choice.  IIRC, the Ionhead got the AA attack to make it the equal of the Railhead.  With the proliferation of air and AA power in the developmental lists, there seems to be an imbalance between the published lists (Marines, Guard, Orks, Siegemasters, Eldar, and Feral Orks) and the lists still in development.

Personally, I don't see the problem with Ionhead AA, but there are some vocal opponents to the idea.

A large concern has been raised that removing AA from the Ionheads will dramatically impact the Tau list negatively, since there will be much less AA coverage, all of which has to be bought at 75 points/model, further reducing the activations available to Tau.

That's one of the reasons I suggested increasing the Seeker missile range on the Skyray... kills two birds with one stone.

While I understand the concerns of those Imperial Players with their Papermodels, 'I would advise caution in taking something away that might be needed in future Rulesappendments ( Air Rules).

Cheers!

I still don't like the loss of equity between the Railhead and Ionhead variants.  This will have to result in a change in points, down to Falcon levels (50 points per model).

Assuming that we do remove the AA from the Ionheads, this will also open a large capability gap in the Tau list, which will have to be made up with (fairly pointed, but still expensive) Skyrays at 75 points each.  This will reduce the activations available, because a Tau army is going to need 3-4 Skyrays (225-300 points, there's an activation).  Can we really afford to lose another activation?

At present, there is one list that only has a single ground-based AA defense, the Marines, and Marines are known to have exceptionally weak AA defenses (I will grant that the Bakka-pattern Thunderbolt does not help the Marines at all here, and shifting to the Forgeworld-pattern would help tremendously, but the Marine Hunter is still underpowered and overcosted).
