Threatening to teleport into engage range of a siegemaster artillary park/formation. Get to tie up a lot of points of units to stop me compared to my cost, which have to remain there throughout the game as otherwise they pretty much will not be the first activation of that turn (pretty essential to fire the old rt first).

Could you elaborate on this a little? I'm not sure I understand what your point is.
:)

Honda, thanks for the explanation.  If I may ask one more question.  After the game did your opponent think that he should have dealt with them differently, ignored them, avoided them or crushed them more quickly?

RE TRC's comment.  The siegemaster RT generally has zero move, so if you teleport close by they can't get away.  Beyond that..

The siegemaster RT

I'm not familiar with the BSM list. What is the above?

As far as my opponent goes, the game was the second Annual Father-Son Birthday Space Marine / Tau Smackdown.

Besides having a lot of fun, what this exercise allows me to do is attempt to fend of repeated strikes with blunt objects using feeble Tau defense mechanisms.

Example:

Niko: ?Where?s your break your spirit formation??
Dad: ?It?s called Break Their Spirit?
Niko: ?Right, where is it??
Dad: ?It?s that Hammerhead formation over there?
Niko: ?Good. I?m going to air assault that formation with my Thunderhawk, Dreadnought, and Tactical squad?
Dad: ?I have CAP up, I?m going to intercept?
Niko: ?So do I. Good, no hits on me and I shot down two of your Barracudas. Now I?m going in?
Dad: ?Wait a minute, I?ve got flak?
Niko: ?Good, they all miss (8 x IC-HH). I?m going in?
Dad: ?Hah! All the macro weapon hits from your dreadnought missed?
Niko: ?Good, I broke you anyway?

So after he catches his breath?

Niko: ?I?m going to retain?
Dad: ?You are??
Niko: ?Yes. I'm air assaulting again. Good your flak missed (2 x IC-HH)?
Dad: ?Grrr?
Niko: ?Good, I land another tactical, dreadnought and my Supreme Commander. Yay, I killed the rest of them. I got your break your spirit?
Dad: ?It?s called Break Their Spirit?
Niko: ?Right. Yours is dead?

So, it's an interesting match up because he usually fields combinations of units that you won't find in a tournament, but which are bothersome nonetheless.

He's especially proud of his "Warlord+Landraiders+Predators+Whirlwind Stop-Me-If-You-Can" phalanx. Next he's going to try running 3 x Warhounds instead of the Warlord and see if it causes more mayhem.

So, this game is more interesting from the perspective of trying to deal with difficult formations that could unhinge a more balanced list.

You can't CAP CAP as it were.

Siegemaster RT is zero move, if a formation enters its ZOC you have to engage or move away when you activate.

Though I've just realised they aren't scouts, that was rejected and as you can't teleport into a ZOC I'll stick to putting them in front of Ork warbands :)

Siegemaster RT

Ok, for the second time...what is a Siegemaster RT?

As for capping CAP, why are we unable to do that? Not disagreeing with you, just curious.

Sorry I can't spell, it should be the above but I tend to abbriviate to rt.

As for not capping cap - you can only cap a ground attack, as a cap is an intercept you can't intervene. Horrible heh? Means no big dogfights.

Ok, so I've been doing that wrong, not a lot as we haven't been playing much with aircraft yet, but wrong nonetheless.

So, basically, you can intercept a ground attack or not. So, by definition, if I understand you correctly, you cannot intercept another formation that is intercepting.

Can't say I like that, but Ok.  :80:

Cannot CAP enemy craft performing CAP = True.

Just realised my favourite use for the formation :)

I dont think Teleport allows you to enter ZOC, which is the point at which your Arty would have to "Do Something!" about the Sentries.

So the Arty guys would eye them nerviously while going about thier business, loading, shooting, ect.

Not a real problem, it doesnt prevent the Arty from doing its job.

@Heckler,

Agreed.

A unit cannot enter enemy ZOC unless performing an ENGAGE action.

Since Marker Drone Sentries don't have Scout (10cm ZOC) they cannot put somebody else in their ZOC to force them to move...

...and since Robotic Sentry doesn't activate to enter an enemy ZOC...
