Dude, if you have pics, it is mandatory that you share them immediately.
What did you use for the shrooms? I've been wanting to do a fungal set of terrain but haven't found a good source for pieces and didn't want to sculpt them all by hand. Any ideas would be most appreciated.

NH,
LOL - OK, I do have pics...
Shot 1 Shot 2 Shot 3 Shot 4 Shot 5
The four 2x2 boards took from Nov. 04 (idea/drawing stage) through Feb. 05 (sealer) to complete.
Hope you enjoy,
PS - regarding what to use for shrooms, we used home construction foam insulation - pinkboard I think its called (has the pink panther on it). You can buy it in large sheets from home supply stores (home depot, etc). We used name brand 'hot wire' foam cutters to do the cutting work. Once you get the hang of the hand tools, it's a piece of cake to cut the shroom stems. You just start with what I would describe as a crude 'horn' and go from there. Shroom heads start out as a square piece of foam and get cut down quickly enough too. Its all 'basic shape' work.
We used liquid nail to glue it top cap and stem together. We then used a foam spray sealer (non aresol of course) to seal it up good. An airbrush was used to paint the majority of all pieces then drybrushing was used in all final stages.
The mini round plants are just wooden craft balls we found at micheals. They come in different sizes and are flat on the bottom. We painted them all out and used static grass on top in a few clumps.
The dome building caps and landing pads are the bottom of planters we found at Walmart. They sell these various size plastic planters and the bottoms pull off. So we just bought a few different sizes till we found the ones we wanted. LOL - you should have seen the clerks face when we said we only wanted the bottom of the planter! LOL - anyway...
The courtyard areas next to the large town circle platform is just different static grass... the ramp sides on the landing pads and central circular tau raised areas are all made from craft foam board (posterboard on either side and foam in the middle). The middel of the ramp is foam.
We used two layers of pinkboard to make each section and the feel you are supposed to get in person is jungle to the front, and the terrain gets more rugged as you go off and away to the back right side (hills/rocks)
The kroot were set up in front in the jungle, and each players commander set in the central circle.
40K players will notice the Tau elite, troop, heavy support, and Fast Attack symbols around the board. In the event, one player from each group got to double up on one of these choices - so the symbol deliniated who got to double up on what.
It was a very labor intensive, but fun project.
Paint was the largest cost. We used all vallejo paint and the most of it was model air. We spent just over $ 1K amongst 4 people to build the 4 sections.
Cheers,

Why on earth have you waited until now to show us!!! :O ? ?
|
Well for the "real" Tau among us, this is old news (still awesome, mind you). We got to see it first on the 40K-Tau list where we have a very...um, interesting blend of personalities.
Have we mentioned the Tau theme song yet?
, "Ahem"
"It's a Tau world after all, it's a Tau world after all, it's a Tau world after all, it's a Tau world after all"
I know, you're jealous and hate me at the same time. ?

Definitely way cool. I have to say I was hoping for a non-scratch build source, but you can't have it all.

Here's another re-post, however it is still applicable:
Top 10 Reasons why it's better to be Tau:
1. We don't have noses, so no head colds 2. All our plasma gunners get to retire from the army 3. Our tanks fly 4. We don't have to wear jewels to look cool (Eldar) 5. We let robots do the stupid stuff 6. We figured Life out the first time around 7. Imperials wish their tanks worked as well as our cell phones 8. We can't get atheletes foot 9. Our buddies think everyone tastes like chicken 10. Our guns are so good we can shoot marshmallows through the front of a Leman Russ
Honorable Mentions:
* Everybody looks good in a pony tail * We don't have ears, so no waxy build up * We didn't have to give up our bodies
