Weapons:
Hunter Missiles, 75cm, AT6+/AA6+, Guided Missles
* * * Change To * * *
Hunter Missiles, 75cm, AT5+/AA5+, Guided Missles

This would affect the Scorpionfish and the Skyray.

In FW:IA3:TC, the Skyray is much more affective as a main tank. Its very affective at AA as well as AT in 40K and can even fire multiple shots by its own marker lights (all of them if it wanted to in a single turn from other unit's marker lights.) The Skyray, per FW:IA3:TC is nicknamed the stinger by the Imperials due to its devistating accuracy in 40K Taros. I'd like to reflect that a bit more in E:A.

I'd also like to show it's value seperate from the Ion-Cannon in E:A and make it worth the 75 points we pay for it.  Right now, the Skyray not worth those points, considering alternatives.

Since the Scorpionfish carries the same array that the SkyRay does, and is only a larger version of the same vessel, it carries the Hunters as well. The same affects would of course affect the same weapon it carries.

Furthermore, the stingray also establishes a job specific missle at 5+ guided. The hunter is the AT/AA oppossite at the proposed AT5+/AA5+ Guided Missiles level.

Thoughts?

The SM Hunter(75pts 4+AA), Eldar Fire Prism(approx.83 AA5+)are costed similarly for better AA values, however, the Skyray has better armour and more weapons systems(even though they have lesser values) so it kind of evens out some IMHO and so long as you're using MLs you still get the 5+ attack for two of the weapon systems.
If you are keen to change it maybe just drop the ML necessity and make it 5+ like the AA interceptor missiles?? Not sure if that follows the fluff though

Keep in mind, the Eldar fire prism can have 3 shots at 5+ as long as he keeps rolling 4+.

The tau skyray is supposed to be better than the SM hunter in fluff.

The skyray might be better according to some fluff (a notoriously unreliable source) but lets please remember that from a game balance perspective we are trying to construct a balanced army.  In the SM list the hunter is the ONLY source of flak (i.e. ground based AA) available.  In the tau list there are 5 different units that can fire AA (IC-Hammerhead, Skyray, Scorpionfish, Moray and Manta), the Tau also enjoy the benefits of a much superior interceptor in the Barracuda.  Some Eldar AA is very powerful, but comes in formations that are easier to break (Fire Prisms kill one to break, Firestorms kill 2 to break).

Tactica, in previous discussions you preferred the increamental approach to making changes.  I would urge you to stick to that credo as there are currently so many changes being discussed (and all are suggesting increasing the power of Tau units) that the seems a danger of un-doing some of the great stuff done so far.

Just a minor error on your side: The Fire Prism is a single shot weapon , with the Lance ability ,not the Pulse ability.

You are always welcome, with or without your hat, Gand... Tactica. But don?t let it slip away again or my Eldar will come around, claiming that secret technology of a pulsing Prism from you.

Cheers!

I think it important to note here that I agree that incremental change is the best way to manage change.

That being said, I also think we are at a point where we should consider all possible changes, tabulate them in a list and then come up with what we are going to recommend "be" changed for the next version.

I would not be in favor of throwing in 10 changes (used as an example) to see what happens. Instead I'd want the community to list out 15 or so and then decide, "OK, you get to pick three changes, what are the most important to you?".

So for the time being, I think we're Ok to brainstorm a little and let our juices flow. They've been bottled up for a little while now.

Um... until announced otherwise, the Tau list is supposed to be submitted for approval in a few months.  Major changes at this point will be quite problematic if anyone expects to make that deadline.

Ok, that's real good to know. I had assumed that we would have a chance to reflect any changes that showed up in the new codex.

It sounds like that isn't supposed to happen.

NH,

Since we've had no guidance from a AC for sometime regarding deadline, and since we've not had a revision in quite sometime due to the influx from IA3 as well as new codex, our hands have been tied.

If folks have to roll up the sleaves & work harder to get a good list submitted - I for one am prepared... I know others here are with me on that. Regardless of who the AC is.

I don't think "Major" changes are required, but I think there is a fair amount of 'tuning/tweaks' that are in need.

The sooner we can get a compiled list of changes/tunes/tweaks, the better for all. (I'm on it)

PS ... wish I had the current list in edittable electronic format to work off of

The sooner we can get an AC, the better for the list and direction. (Jervis is on it - hopefully)

The sooner we can get a confirmed release date expectation from Jervis and/or the powers that be - the better our versioning schedule can be defined. (nobody knows from what I can tell, and I've seen several say these dates seem to be slipping)

As far as major changes go - whatever needs to be done will get done if 'we' (tau community) can help it.
