Well, had a heckuva game yesterday, with Titan Legions using the "Modular Weapons" 2.11 point values. Take a look at some nasty Titans in this Strongpoint Attack! |

(Evil and Chaos @ Dec. 16 2006,14:56) QUOTE How did you find the points costs / abilities of the modular titans in this game? Well, I like the concept of the "points cost" approach to army Titans, but I think it lets you get away with making some real monsters. The Warhound pairs my opponent fielded with all Mega-Bolters are just insane to face, and cheaper than the "regular" loadout and they are just nasty. To say nothing of the Laser Burner Reaver! I feel there needs to be some other limit on loadouts than just points, I like the Tactical/Support/Assault designation/limitation as well as the point values used together. |

One note; Did you use any damage tables for the Titans in this battle, or was it just the standard rulebook tables? |

Isn't the LasBurner a CC-weapon (i know its used only in FF but i think its the same category) and supposed only to be mounted in an arm-hardpoint? |

I left Lasburners as Universal (Tactical) mounts in the modular titans list... perhaps there's scope for limiting them to arm hardpoints only? Chroma: The Universal / Carapace / Arm locations provide something very similar to what you're looking for. You obviously feel that the Lasburner Reaver was too powerful for its cost. Looks like it could be due a points increase at the least. And seemingly you didn't like those twin-mega-bolter Warhounds (I'd note that they're just 20 points cheaper than a standard warhound, and that they spent the entire game firing at Tyranids, which are as close to an ideal target for a mega-bolter as you're ever going to find). How do you feel about the performance of that 1095 point Warlord Titan? By my eye, the overall costs of the circa 2700 points of titans chosen come out to within 45 points of each other, depending on whether you use AMTL 2.0 or Modular Weapons, though the weapons mix chosen is of course illegal under AMTL 2.0. |

(Evil and Chaos @ Dec. 18 2006,01:53) QUOTE I left Lasburners as Universal (Tactical) mounts in the modular titans list... perhaps there's scope for limiting them to arm hardpoints only? I believe the Lasburner has always been a "any slot" weapon... just facing three of them in one place was really nasty. ?*laugh* ?Against any other army I think it would've been even worse as most don't have fearless units to anchor formations as well as the problem of being broken all other armies suffer. And seemingly you didn't like those twin-mega-bolter Warhounds (I'd note that they're just 20 points cheaper than a standard warhound, and that they spent the entire game firing at Tyranids, which are as close to an ideal target for a mega-bolter as you're ever going to find). I don't think my Orks, or Eldar, or even Marines would want to face 16 AP 3+ shots a turn! ?*laugh* ?Yes, swarms of Tyranids are the near perfect target for them, but I think a lot of armies would suffer because of them. I'm talking to my opponent to try out that army, slightly tweaked, as he normally hates fielding any non-Titan formations, against some other "Tournament-style" lists. How do you feel about the performance of that 1095 point Warlord Titan? Well, first of that was a Titan designed to be an "off-board" arty Titan, so I'm not sure how often something like that would be brought to the battlefield. ?But, again, against an army other than Tyranids, I think it would've been incredibly brutal, able to shatter a formation a turn. By my eye, the overall costs of the circa 2700 points of titans chosen come out to within 45 points of each other, depending on whether you use AMTL 2.0 or Modular Weapons, though the weapons mix chosen is of course illegal under AMTL 2.0. Yeah, points-wise it was very close. ?I think the danger is allowing Titans to *ultra*-specialize beyond what a more "balanced" load-out would do for the same points. Me, I'd stick Carapace Multilasers on the Lasburner Reaver and go hunting with it... *laugh* |
