Titan Weapon Heads

Why is it that a Weapon Head reduces CC by -1 and vice versa for a Close Combat Head. I would have thought that a titans CC ability was based on its arms and legs dealing death. And that the addition of a CC head would only augment this. Whist its FF value is based on the weapons fitted and any defence weapons in the titan. So the addition of a CC head has no bearing on its ability to fire fight and as such does not detract from its ability to, so why does it?

So aren't they better stated at: Weapon Head 15cm  Small arms Extra Attacks +1(2?), Close Combat Head Base Contact Assault Weapon +1 (2?)

Historically, that's how they worked.

Oh and as Collector's models they're not valid for use unless you use modular titan costings. :)

I always assumed that is was more than just a different looking head, it would also have differing electronics and a crew mentality.  It alsos represents a massive refit of the titans PDW.

A close combat headed titan might have a few more bolters studdy to it and better motors and articulators (sp?) to allow it to stop more easily.

Whereas a firefight head would represent the stompy articulators being downgraded and reduced in size for extra ranges PDW and targeting matrixes.

The +1/-1 that you are seeing is not to the number of attacks, but to the to-hit numbers for the titan.  So, for a Reaver with a weapon head the CC value goes from a 3+ to a 4+ (making it harder to hit with CC attacks) while the FF goes from a 3+ to a 2+ (making it easier to hit with FF attacks).  While the head may have very little bearing upon how well a titan performs in an assault, a weapon or close combat head would be representative of a titan that has been outfitted with a wide variety of small weapon blivets or extra cutting / chopping / grinding bits.  If you are going to put a CC or weapon head on a titan you should also do further modifications to the miniature to show the further modifications.

I have 2 issues with the CC/FF heads.

1)  A CC head on a Warlord is pointelss as it already as 2+CC.
2)  There are multiple interactions when you start changing the base CC/FF values which can cause balance problems.

Simply adding extra attacks makes for a smoother system with similar overall effects.

Adding +1 Extra Attack for FF/CC seems to be the best solution for the heads.
Perhabs if yopu have a CC-Head you gain +1EA for CC but loose 1 Attack for FF?
The same but in reverse for the Weapon-Head.
