I've recently started trying to build my own Titan Legion. So far I've not got a lot, just two Warlords and eight Knights, but I'm rather interested in people's opinions on this one.  In all the bat-reps I've read I don't think anyone's used any of the assault-range weapons. Does anyone have any personal experience with fielding these weapons? Are Titans too slow to effectively engage the enemy in melee? I've also noticed that other then the Leader upgrades and the Carapace Landing Pad people seem not to take many of the upgrades, for instance I don't think I've ever seen someone use a Titan with Devotional Bell, have people here decided these aren't worth the price?

How useful are they, though, compared to normal weapons? Is a Power Fist worth giving up, say, a Volcano Cannon to field? I'm imagining (maybe incorrectly) that it would be fairly hard to get a Warlord into melee, since most enemies can simply run away from them if they need to... Sure against Orks you can use it a fair bit. But IG and Space Marines should really run away when a titan gets that close unless they're sure they can kill it. It's probably just me, it just seems like with only a 15cm move-speed you'll have a very hard time catching mounted infantry.

I'm planning my titan legion at the moment and I intend to use assault weapons.  Well the chain fist.  On a reaver chasis it look like it will make a loverly tank hunter.  2 turbo lasers/gatling blaster to shoot them up on the way in and a chain fists excessive number of MW attacks to open them up.

I'm planning on using the =][= chain weapons, the large evisicrater looks funky

On a similar note, do you think it's better to take melee weapons or firefight weapons? The laser burner is a good example. It's Carapace-mounted potentially, has 4 extra attacks and it's a MW. I'd most likely take this over a chain-fist almost every time, since the titans are so slow. This would give a Reaver an effective 35cm engage range. 20cm ove movement and 15cm of fire-fight. And unless the enemy got all or almost all of their troops into close-combat with you it would be quite difficult for them to avoid losing significant numbers to it. Admittedly I have a hard time picturing anyone other then Space Marines and Tyranids willingly engaging a Titan. Well, eldar maybe with the right units, but even then you'd need to be really careful about how you do it.

A FF-Titan with Lasburners is the way to go, totally nasty and terrifying in the supporting role as well. What you get is essentially a moving bubble of FF overkill with 30cm+base diameter where you can engage with other units to your heart?s content, while everything in the FF-Titans LOF gets roasted. Utterly evil.

2xLasburners 2xPlasmaCannons? :p

I think that I would first say, the original question was do people use them, not do people use them exclusive of other weapons. I like a Reaver with one assault and two shooty weapons.

But be that as it may, I will also admit that sometimes I resist the urge to min/max my stuff and rather select it on what cool mini I want to play. I know this flys in the face of those who need to crunch the numbers and min/max, but I also have never played in any "official" games. Just friendly ones amoung friends. And because we all had the same attitudes it did not cause any issues for us.  :D

So to answer this question, who cares, they look cool. :p

I see assault weapons as defensive weapons.
Volcano cannons don't help much when 2 Terminator formations assault a Warlord. Chainfists do.

Yes, that is true Daf, but as you know, I/we see Epic as a hi-tech version of WWII vs. aliens and deamons ... (the Yamato, Iowa, etc. didn't have a ram !)     :alien:  So yes ... DWWFY !

The lack of ram was merely an oversight at the dry dock.
