Hi

As you know Evil and Chaos is busy writing next supplement featuring AM vs Orks, with Legio Destructor (Steel Beasts) playing a big part. We know very little official about Legio Destructor:

http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Legio_D ... nzy5ewppKr

Princeps: Grand Master Thaedius Wilson
Forge World: Accatran
Notes: largest Titan Legion with over 100 Titans
Battle Cry: big death, Big Death, BIG DEATH!
Sources: Armageddon3.com, TL Codex Titanicus, 2nd Edition, Imperial Armor 1

We know they fought against Chaos and Orks, with Titans fitted with sonic amplifers.

In Mechanicus we know that delegate from the Legio Destructor, Princeps Graine, was present at the Council of Tharsis on Mars, although we don't find out anything more about him.

So we need to fill in the gaps. In particular we have to come up with a colour scheme. I have been bouncing ideas off Evil and Chaos but we need some more insight.

I have suggested that we should avoid:
red- Legio Metalica (Iron Skulls),
blue with yellow- Legio Astorum (Warp Runners),
green & yellow- Legio Astraman (Morning Stars),
grey & yellow- Legio Gryphonicus (War Griffons),
red, black & yellow - Legio Ignatum (Fire Wasps),
blue- Legio Victorum (Foe Slayers)

(This is not an exhaustive list but does cover the Loyalist Legios featured in AT/WD).

I like the idea of having some metallic areas to reference their Steel Beasts nickname. But E&C thinks that plain metallic is boring, and having painted Iron Warriors I can agree with that.

So what do you reckon? Something different to the other Legios but something that would work on massed warmachines.

Thanks

James

The German Lexicanum has this as their symbol.

Maybe metallic and black quartered (or halved)?

The black would certainly break up a flat metallic colour.

Having once painted a quartered paint scheme for a W40K Space marine army, I presonally would prefer not quartered. Halved would fit in with that logo.

Possibly bit dark?

Thanks

James

Might be a bit dark, but the Steel Beasts seem a gritty, dark, grimy bunch.

Wasn't defensive, just an explanation of my thought process. ;)

This suggests red and black, but I have no idea where he got the info. Also, red and black are the two most overused GW colors (IMO, anyway).

yeah- I found that thread yesterday- i spent several hours googling Legio Destructor.

Quite a few of the Traitor legions used black with red, whilst both Legio Metalica and Legio Ignatum uses red with black,

E&C had suggested using the dark green that GW used on their Mk 3 Warlord. I thought we should do something distinct from GW, abd also bit too similar to Legio Astraman.

Hence this brainstorming thread to see what we could come up with.

Thanks

James

As they're the steel beasts perhaps steel with a colour like blue or red for trimmings? I'm concerned that pure steel would look a bit naff. Perhaps properly highlighted it'd be good though.?

Would have to work for both Mk1 and Mk3 Warlords. The older Mars pattern Titans had a nice rimmed edge to carapace and leg armour- which works perfectly as a contrasting colour. By contrast the newer Lucius pattern Titans have just got a flat armour plate with no rimmed edge.

I know you were thinking of stating that Forgeworld Accatran used Lucius pattern titans (although obviously players are free to use whatever pattern they like), so we would need to make sure colour scheme works for flat armour plates.

Perhaps combine your suggestion with Simulated Knave's idea of quartered or halved colour scheme?

Cheers

James

I think it'd depend heavily on the blue - you'd need a fairly dark blue for it to work with steel (IMO). Red...I'm not sure would work, but I don't generally like red. :P

I have generally found that all metal with normal trim looks weird, but that's me.

Yep. Silver armour with gold trim would look like giant Iron Warriors :D And also is boring.

Actually this looks interesting. Just replace the grey with silver

What Legio is the current GW warlord model?

If something unique is in order, how about black with blue detailing?

Looks nice but how well would it translate to Lucius pattern? Dont forget no raised edges for the silver bits.

Would you want to paint that scheme on a lot of titans?

Thanks

James

Don't think GW ever said what Legio it was.

I think that was one of the reasons that E&C was cosnidering using it for Legio Destructor. (That and he already had a couple of Titans painted up that way).

When you say blue detailing, which bits on Lucius pattern would you mean?

Thanks

James

Armour plating on weapons, perhaps as part of some livery pattern on the shins or knee armour.
