So, following the discussion in the Skitarii 2011 thread, I have a question: Does the Adeptus Mechanicus need any Imperial Guard WEs or AVs? The goal, as I understand it, is to make the Skits play differently to the IG. Now, say we strip ALL the superheavies and AVs out of the list. Baneblades, Macharii, Gorgons, Artillery, Russes, Chimaeras, everything. We then up the move on the Minoris to 15cm, 20 with a Corvus. Allow at least majoris and possibly minoris to take CML, and possible add more secondaries. We then have the tools to make just about every WE with a standard Minoris chassis. Gorgon: Corvus Assault Pod Macharuis: Gatling blaster, VMB, or TLD Baneblade: again, TLD Stormblade: Plasma Blastgun Stormsword: AML or Quake Stormsword: Volcano Cannon You end up with a list that emphasises infantry and Void Shielded War Engines, and plays VERY differently to Guard. I'd miss my Russes, but a Gatling Blaster Minoris company would ease my pain. >:D |

I think that the minorus company or single minorus can replace the superheavies like baneblade, but I think it would be a mistake to completely remove all armor from the list because it becomes a little boring to play with only minorus, skitarii, majoris, and a smattering of other options. |

What would you leave? I thought about leaving in the Russes and Arty, but the Arty, at least, can be replaced by a Minoris Company with 2x AML and a Carapace Landing Pad. Removing all the armor options would also put emphasis on Forge Knights and Praetorian Servitors as support. |

I would leave the macharius as it effectively fills the roll of a regular russ and the vanquisher while providing an interesting option to the Skitarii. I'd also leave the Executioner Russ as the higher mobility for a bit more mobile strike force. I'd leave teh sentinels because they are a rather iconic Imperial unit and there isn't anything that can fill the roll without making up our own units. I'd also leave the hydras since AA is needed and again, we don't have anything else Skitarii can use outside of maybe CML or adding AA to a unit like the praetorians. Last I'd leave the manticore since it has a slightly different role than minorus based Arty can accomplish. |

Sentinels stay, they're needed. I didn't make that clear in the OP. I do think a CML option for the Ordinatii would be better than Hydras, personally. Forge Knights would be an excellent mobile strike force, with 20cm move and infiltrate. Unconvinced on the Manticores and Machs, though a larger formation of Machs might give them a clearer role as MBT. |

Forgeknights are still more expensive and the really are only one shot weapons. They don't have much shooting which means they have to assault which makes them extremely vulnerable by ending in close proximity to remaining formations. They are also somewhat larger models which makes them hard to hide. They are a flavor unit right now rather than a capable core unit. I might like to see all tanks in the macharius formation be allowed to have which ever of the turrets they want rather than the single command tank able to swap out the vanquishers. One thing to note is that since the main turret weapon isn't a twin weapon but rather 2x battle cannons/ vanquisher cannons, three of the macharius put out close the the same level of firepower as the standard russ did. Since it's no longer in the list as of 3.18, I think the macharius needs to be there to fill the role and to give you a cheaper option than a 400+ point minorus company. |
