I'm just getting back into Epic since a big long break. I'm picking up two armies, Eldar and AMTL. AMTL because I like titans, and they were the best thing about the original epic, which I played as a child (Epic Space Marine 2nd Edition was my first GW game).

I'll start with a generic AMTL army, which is so far shaping up as the following

Super heavy formation (Shadowswords)
Leman Russ Company
Forge Knights
Sentinels

This gives me 1650.

I'd like to take a pair of Warhounds and a Warlord in a 3000 list, and this gives me 1350 to play with. I'm open to ditching the Warhounds in favour of an Infantry formation, but I'd love a big imposing Warlord striding over the battlefield.

However I've been absent for so long, what do people think of the unit choices so far (which have been dictated by availability, as in this is what I have) and what should I arm the Warlord with?

Well I'd be tempted to go with something to complement the rest of your army... so how about a Godhammer Warlord with a pair of Quake Cannons for arms, a carapace landing pad to let you fire the Quake Cannons indirect (and double their range by doing so), and a Vulcan Megabolter for hosing up infantry who get too close.

Though at the moment I'm having fun with a Plasma Lord, with a Plasma Destructor, 2x Plasma Blastguns, and a Quake Cannon.

I like Quake Cannons. :))

Anyway back to my point, the Godhammer Warlord adds a high volume of ranged MW attacks and artillery attacks to your army list, both of which you're not particularly flush with.

You have the SHT's that aren't going to move and the forgeknights that are assaulters, so you need probably a medium range advancing warlord. Something with range 60 weapons because of the slow speed. Or shorter ranged and march first turn. Could have a laugh with 2 plasma blast guns, 1 Close combat weapon, 1 CML, then either cheap load out (say a VMB) or more pricy and longer ranged (say TLD).

A slight variation on E&C's idea (I like Quake Cannons aswell   ),
2x Quake Cannons, a CLP and a Las Burner to help deter Terminator assaults and the like.

This would basically be a Blitz guard but could move out and direct fire the Quake's and add some nice FF support to other assaults.

im guessing triple quake cannon and CLP would be over kill then? i like the double with CLP and laserburner idea of CC support.

i still dont own any warlords, im debating on just picking up a bunch of the older beetle back ones, but im concerned about hoe well they look on the table next to FW warhounds and reavers.
