I tried my first game with the knights list the other day and was greatly impressed - they seem reasonably balanced and are a lot of fun. Unfortunately, I only have ten paladins and no other knights (used paladins as lancers and errants, used zettian guard from heroscape for crusaders), so I'll need some more, and don't fancy paying ebay prices. The natural thing to do, then, is to make them - preferably not from scratch. The first two things that spring to mind for bases are the tau fire warriors and the necron warriors. These both come in boxes of 12, giving reasonably good value. So, has anyone else made knights from these (or from anything)? Have suggestions why one is better than the other? Reasons why both are bad? Alternatives? Any and all comments appreciated. ![]() |

I'll be using DRM Andrayadan Walkers for most of my Knights - LINK. I've already got them but they are on the backburner until other projects are finished. |

The old plastic knights are usually the cheapest to pick up. The metal stuff is rare and usually expensive, especially the metal paladins. I've seen one auction for those in the last year and it went for $30USD. For Errants maybe plastic knights with a powerfist and a filed down gun with melta barrel added on. http://www.thewarstore.com/media/BWB/ss ... melta2.jpg http://www.thewarstore.com/media/BWB/ss ... mie_pf.jpg For Lancers some type of lance from the fantasy line would be good for the shock lance. Alternatively the kind of look like a plastic-card tube with a missile stuck on the end, that might work too. As to the Baron, see if you can get a hold of an old metal Necron Immortal, I think either Charad or plm did a conversion with one of those that came out very nice. Crusaders and Castellans might need some extra work if you were going to use the plastic paladins. You'd have to bulk them out a bit. As to the weapons, maybe an assault cannon/multi-laser and an autocannon for the quake cannon. |

If you need more plastic Paladins for conversions, I have about 10 spare ones. |

Thanks everyone, Onyx, I love those DRM walkers, but they don't really have the look of the Ad Mech war machines. Thanks for the idea, though. Dave, nice ideas! I think the first attempt will be to make a bunch of Errants. I slightly prefer the Lancers, but Errants will be cooler looking, I think. Dwarf Supreme, if there's any result other than total failure, I'll be asking for those models. By the way, does anyone have any pictures/descriptions of lancers? I'm having a hard time imagining them. Do they carry a lance in each hand, with the gun mounted above and behind one? I checked out Epicollector, but the pictures are all side on and not very helpful: pic1 pic2 pic3 |

Those pictures there are the AT era stuff. plm posted some SM/TL era stuff, check the bottom of the first page for lancers: http://www.tacticalwargames.net/forums....+and+am Speaking of which, has anyone heard from plm lately? He's logged in recently but just hasn't posted. |

The very old metal necrons (with seperate arms) can make a great baron if oyu're lucky enough to find one- it is almost the same miniature! |

I used the old metal necron warriors with necromunda heavy stubber and pit slave chainsword to make my knights, before GW stpped a bitz service. I surpose that terminators could be used as the heavier knights, with quite a bit of moddification, or possiuble the new immortals. |

My first idea when converting Knights was using the old plastic Terminators (not the very old ones), which should be cheaper if bought second-hand (remember they also were in Space Hulk) and look more like machines than the current ones. Remove the arms and give them proper weapons, remove the head and add a suitable one that has the "Knight style". I'm gonna build my Forge Knights that way (in the far future, too many Titans, you know). |
