Yup, and the relative activation count is a good indicator sometimes.  My Elysians fought the AMTL in a 4000 point game.  My 14 activations to his 6 activations.  In the end he was out of position and unable to control the board like I was.

I found that you generally need to play for a draw, to win on victory points not objectives.

Mephiston and I tried this last year (so the AMTL list used is slightly out of date, but you should get the idea).

And what anbout winning a game?

How can I take 3 objectives with 4 ground activation against a list that have 7?


What are the basic tactics with AMTL? I have to run on the objectives from the 1st turn or what??

You want to figute out what win conditions are acheivable, and how to deny conditions to the enemy.

You should definitely aim to get BTS. With titans, your opponent will find it difficult to do the same.

DTF should be acheivable; just park a titan on each of your objectives. The fourth can move up and claim/contest an enemy objective, denying DTF and TSNP simulntaneously.

Your TSNP might be difficult to get, you have overwhelming fire, but the enemy will potentially be able to move more formations than you have activations onto your side of the board.

Blitz and Take and Hold are out for you, but should be the same for your opponent.

Final score: ATML: 2-3 (BTS, DTF, Possibly TSNP) Opponent: 0

Some cheap Sentinel Formations could hold on-side objectives for you, allowing you to potentially get TNH as well. If you have the points.

[edit] Just looked again at your list. Consider dropping the Thunderbolts for 3x Recon Platoons. You already have AA from the Carapace Multilasers. This will allow some flexability in who claims on-side objectives. Park them in cover and they are suprisingly durable. [/edit]

Abbreviations are all the victory point objectives.

DTF - Defend The Flag
BTS - Break Their Spirit
T&H - Take and Hold
TSNP - They Shall Not Pass
Blitz - err.. Blitz
