A Hydra is puny and weak!

It does not stride the earth as a God of War!

That game starts to resemble hero-hammer too much.

Although the list allows it, actually building such Titans and using them in a game is a recipie for a quick loss.

I prefer that army list restrictions arise through common sense, rather than impose 0-x restrictions.

0-x restrictions should be used exclusively on 'fluff' grounds rather than playability... there are more elegant ways to solve balance problems, IMHO.

Unless you're playing 5000 points... *laugh*

I still think some restrictions may be in order, but of weapon types per titan rather than the titans themselves.

(I still have visions of a Reaver flat on its back having fired three quake cannons) :p

-5 reavers with 3 laser burners each. 3000pts (anti-nid list??)
-List looks like fun. but maxing things seems bad. 4 volcano warlords, 4 plasma destructor warlords, or just backing with those free weapons for cheaper titans

Charad brings up a good point but are these beasts  self limiting with their (usually) focus being on one or two types of enemy.
Some weapon combos, especially multiple of the same type will be very powerful but usually only against 1 or 2 types of targets.
Do not forget the list is being design to be balanced for use with the GT scenario and tournaments where you wouldn't know who or what your facing.

The 5 reavers with las burners may destroy a tyranid army but how would it fair if your opponent didn't bring tyranids and brought a shadowsword/vulture and deathstrike heavy force instead.

The same could be said for the 4 volcano/Plasma Destructor heavy Warlords list,it would smash armour and war engine heavy lists but what if your opponent then brings an all infantry army they could be resigned to killing grots and boys with those expensive weapons.

This reminds me of a couple of tournaments I have been to.
To my first ever tournament I took a list I thought would be good against Eldar. The talk on the forums at that time was how powerful they were, there ended up being no Eldar at the tournament at all and I played 3 very different Ork lists.
At one tournament last year the 3-4 warhound/thunderhawk and feral heavy Marine and Chaos lists were being discussed as super powerful tournament armies so I had a Guard list I thought would be capable of handling these type of lists. The first army I faced was an all infantry Feral Ork army with no flyers,my vultures were resigned to assaults and my deathstrikes were used to try to kill madboys.

As E+C has said Titans like these are usually a recipe for losing.
As has been found at most tournaments the extreme lists/combos which some claim to be almost unbeatable are found to be left wanting when used in a tournament environment against unknown and more balanced armies or ones they are not focused on defeating.

I would limit total number of Plasma Weapons... in olde goody times Titan could only fire one plasma weapon (and nothing else) because of the power drain...

(reminds my SM 2nd ed Warlord: Plasma Destructor, Plasma Cannon, 2x Vortex Missile)

First attempt should be to restrict CC and FF weapons to Arm Mounts only. And Missiles to Carapace Mounts only.
Then a restriction that a titan can't have more than two of the same weapon.

So no triple LasBurner Reaver, no quad Plasma Destructor Warlord.
The Reaver has to have a Carapace mounted shooting weapon and if the Warlord want's to keep the all-plasma theme he has to change two of the Plasma Destructors to Plasma Cannons.

I can agree with that. Fluff-wise it makes sense to limit the number of plasma weapons. I don't see a problem with having multiples of other weapons, though.

Wow...Plasma is really not feeling the love here today! :(

Rather than singling out one weapon type for limitation, I would support something similiar to the way Apocaylyspe allocates titan weapon mounts.

BlackLegion is our resident expert on this, but as I recall...certain weapon such as quake cannons, volcano cannons and plasma destructors are limited to arm mounts...while others are limited to carpace mounts such as turbo lasers and support missiles.

Seems to me to be a better way to limt titan weapon loadouts than to say I don't like a four plasma destructor (and for the record..neither do I) so lets ban it!

Regards

I have nothing against plasma. It was only an example :)
Apart from the FW Reaver a Titan with more than two of the same weapon was never displayed.

Apocalypse says:
Carapace Mount
- Double Barelled Turbolaser-Destructors
- Plasma Blastgun
- Inferno Gun
- Vulcan Megabolter
- Apocalypse Missile Launcher
- Vortex Missile

Arm Mount
- Laser Blaster
- Gatling Blaster
- Melta Cannon
- Plasma Destructor
- Ragnarok Quake Cannon
- Vulcano Cannon
- Titan Closecombat Weapon

If I do anything with restricting what weapons can go where, then it will be to mirror *exactly* the restrictions in the Apocalypse book.

I have not done this so far because I know it will mean many people will have to cut up their painted titans.
