Since a huge mob of titans would attract some attention on the battlefield might a solution not be for other races to be able to adjust the amount of points they spend on titans from 1/3 to 1/2? If my chaos forces had been allowed to spend half their points on titans it might have been a different story! I guess this might be hard to playtest and of more benefit to some races than others. Great to see so many titans battling it out again though, reminds me of happy Adeptus Titanicus days! :)

Just the problem of blind game vs non blind game. These are tournament lists and as such blind game should be expected...Afterall who knows all his opponents in tournament beforehand?

Any specialised list such as this should just be set so that, if the opponent turns up with a whole bunch of anti-titan weapons, the AMTL force should be in trouble.  However, if the opponent has no anti-titan weapons, he should be at a disadvantage.  Tournament meta / opponent self control should be relied on to provide balance.

I haven?t played against an AMTL force so I can?t say how if fits in with that theory, but I thought I?d mention it.  Maybe it seems obvious but the complaints might indicate that it?s balanced against a force readily equipped to deal with titans, which isn?t really the way to go.

Totally true, I seem to have missed the point a bit but in my defense I rarely get a tournament game and mostly just play friendly matches where I know what I'm facing beforehand, more or less.

Yes, I think it would make a big difference to the playtesting if the opponent builds his army to take you down, or if he's using a blind list.  Clearly, with the intent of creating a tourney balanced army list, using the data from blind games is the only way to go.

As a side note, the 3 games so far were against blind lists, and all included some TK weapons (as seems typical for IG and Orks)

Yes, I think it is wise to put some TK in a tournament army too.
But perhaps with the exception of orks, TK weapons are most of the time fielded in 1 or 2 formations.
These formations are often destroyed/broken early during the battle, as it is the only serious threat to the titans, thus they attract a lot of fire.

If I knew I would fight AMTL, I would put a lot of shadowswords plus a bit of AT to remove void shields.

Anyway, not the best epic games I've played!

Exactly.  This is why it should be tough, but not impossible, to beat the AMTL list with very few or no titan killer weapons.  Especially seeing as Space Marines are allowed one maximum (and they'll probably have none).

If this leaves the list vulnerable to a TK-heavy list then so be it.  That's the risk you take with a specialised list.

With this set up, if you're playing a friendly game with the AMTL list and your opponent brings a shed load of TK weapons along, then you're free to use physical violence against him
