This is the second game we set up for Dobbsy's visit to Ontario, this time against Pipboy's gleaming Necrons... 3000 points of terror vs 3000 points of horror! *laugh* |

Battlefield: 4x6 Necrons chose corner deployment. Deployment: Necrons kept everything except the two Pylons in reserve. Tyranids kept the Lictor Swarm and both Infiltration Swarms in reserve. Tyranids garrisoned the Genestealers in a wide swath off of the Tyranid Blitz and placed the very shooty Attack Swarm 1 on overwatch guarding the forest around Tyranid Objective 1. Remaining deployment as shown: |

Turn 1 Monoliths 1, 2, and 3 teleport in to bracket Assault Swarm 2, unfortunately Monolith 1 takes a Blast marker on the way in and immediately breaks. Strategy Roll: Necrons ![]() With the support of two other Monoliths, Phalanx 1 steps out of the Portal of Monolith 1 and engages Assault Swarm 2 in a massive conflict. ?Two Tyranid Warriors and a single Ravener are all that survive of the Bugs, while the Necrons lose the Pariah and 2 Necron Warrior units. Eques 1 hovers out of the Portal of Monolith 2 and advances on Attack Swarm 2, flaying away 1 Haruspex? and the poor Hive Tyrant! The ragged survivors of Assault Swarm 2 sustain fire on Phalanx 1 knocking down the Necron Lord and another unit of Warriors, breaking the phalanx. The remains of Attack Swarm 2 sustain fire on Phalanx 1, eliminating it completely. Monolith 3, with the support of Eques 1, engages the intermingled Genestealers and Assault Swarm 2. ?The Tyranids score a minor victory, knocking down the Obelisk while losing a Ravener. Assault Swarm 1 procedes to engage Eques 1, knocking down 5 of the flying death machines while only losing 2 Raveners. Monolith 2 slowly advances on the very small Assault Swarm 2 and eliminates the two remaining Tyranid Warriors. Phalanx 2 strides out of Monolith 3 and engages Assault Swarm 1. ?The Necrons manage to kill two of the Tyranid Warriors, a Ravener, and a Termagant? but are completely wiped out in the exchange! The Nexus Swarm doubles towards the corner to fire on Eques 1, taking out the broken Necrons. The Genestealers actually *decide* to take a hold action and hold their ground. Pylon 1 sustains fire on Attack Swarm 1? and misses. Pylon 2 sustains fire on Attack Swarm 2? and vapourizes a Zoanthrope. Attack Swarm 1 stays on overwatch? End of Turn: All broken Necron formations fade away and the remaining Necron formations rally. The Nexus Swarm uses a Spore to produce 4 new Raveners. Assault Swarm 1 uses a Spore to gain 1 Gargoyle and 2 Raveners. Attack Swarm 1 gains 1 Biovore, 1 Ravener, and 2 Termagants. |

Turn 2 Monoliths 1, 2, and 4 teleport in to bracket Assault Swarm 1, unfortunately Monolith 1 again takes a Blast marker on the way in and immediately breaks. The Lictors show up, out in the open, "behind" Monolith 4. Monoliths 3, 5, and 6 show up to bracket the Nexus swarm? Monolith 5 rolls "snake-eyes" and breaks! ?(Metallic cursing is heard from deep underground?) Strategy Roll: Necrons ![]() Phalanx 3 steps out of Monolith 6's Portal and, with the support of Monoliths 3 and 5, engages the Nexus Swarm. ?An Exocrien, 2 Raveners, and 3 Termagants are killed? while the Necrons are wiped out, also breaking Monolith 3! Very loud metallic cursing is heard from deep underground and the Necron commander capitulates to the Hive Mind? With single Phalanx and Eques formations left and half his Monoliths broken? at the start of Turn 2, Pipboy felt he had no chance of winning and, as a good sportsman, gracefully surrendered to Dobbsy... plus, we were getting hungry for burritos! |

(Hena @ Jan. 25 2007,22:22) QUOTE Well that was over quick. You seem to use a lot of exocrines. Are they useful with AP3+/AT4+ weapons now? Too good? Yes, it was painfully quick... *laugh* It was Dobbsy fielding the Tyranids, and he put together the various Tyranid armylists used. We were using the "original" 7.1 rules, so they were still 2 x MW5+... Personally, I rarely use them, but Dobbsy really liked the "shooty" approach to Tyranids... just look at that Zoanthrope swarm! *laugh* With 2xAP3+/AT4+ for the Bio-Cannons, you'd be getting a lot more hits, just that the enemy would be getting saves... does the proposed Bio-cannon ignore cover due to all the acid/virus stuff it sprays around? |

(Pulsar @ Feb. 27 2007,14:22) QUOTE thanks for the battle report Chroma, i didn't think Necrons were that fragle? Necrons are terrifying at first, but become less and less scary as you play against them... kind of like, but totally different from, Tyranids. I've enjoyed all my games against Necrons, even the big losses. *laugh* |
