I'm wondering why is the statagy rating so low?  It seems to be about 1 in every system that nids appear in.  Yet there tactics are some of the best around.

It seems odd to me that a group of fungi can out think the hivemind and get the jump on it.

The tyranid don;t think defensively and constantly attack in such numbers it is impossible for the enemy to coordinate a successful response to the pressure.

Surely we should have a competative rating.  I remember playing against ulthwa when they had Sg6 and I cold only win a tie because it was my birthday the following week.

I think we should have a rating of at least 2 (the smae as guard) upto 4, with only the superhuman marines and panzeeeldar beating us.

This ragnarok guy on the other forum (that great forum) seems to agree with me!

I still don't believe that tyanids don't react quickly to enemy threats.  Tehy realsie and adapt to the changes very quicker.  Only theirtop speed reduces their effectiveness.  Since quick enemies (ie tanks and APCs) can escape their claws.

So what about a comprimise.  We have a high SG in the first turn, a reasonable one the second turn and 1 thereafter.  To represent the enemy overcoming the shock of the assaultand grinding us down.

So it would go

turn 1 Sg4
turn 2 Sg2
turn 3 Sg1
turn 4 Sg1
and so on.

I quite like the fact that 'nids need a 6 and Marines need a 1. :D

When you get down to it, Tyranid attacks are represented as being somewhat ponderous... it's the relentlessness of the attack that makes Tyranids so feared.

Ponderous?

We attack so quickly that the enemy barely has time to fire before we are upon them and do what we do best.

I just don't like how nids have a Statagy rating of a defensive army.  It isn't our style.

I'll try to get soe ests in with varied ratings and see ho it effects the balance of the army.

I totally agree with E&C and Hena on this - although it is undoubtablty frustrating to very rarely win the strategy rating it does balance the game out. Having bugs win more than their fair share of strategy rolls would be a nightmare for outnumbered opponents.

Saying that - there is no reason why you can't play a non-GT game and change the strategy to reflect scenario situations (bug ambush for instance!).

I think that it should also be remembered that this is for a phase four list - that is, after the initial bombardments, etc. At this point, every gun on the planet is pointing up and outwards. By then, the element of surpise is pretty much gone.

Ragnarok:  You're confusing rapid reaction on a small unit basis (Initiative) and good reaction on an army-planning level (Strategy).

No.  SC can reroll Initiative tests.  That's a Strategy test.
