It seems like I always see batreps where people are placing all the bug slow stuff on the field to start. Then, I recalled a recent game where due to placement, I left a lot of stuff in reserve in our campaign game.

This was in part because I outnumbered the force I was assaulting... however, the more I got to thinking about it, the more I thought there might actually be some merit to this tactic after reading the Carnifex thread... so...

Is there a school of thought that revolves around very very fast moving tyranid hordes of piddly crud with lots of wounds trippling to the enemy's side of the field as fast as you can, then, once you've reached the turn before assault, you spawn all the "heavier" spawnable stuff in reserve to the enemy lines for the first time...

Then you didn't have to actually "move" the slow stuff across the field, you just summoned it directly to their side.

Just curious if anyone has tried something like this.

Seems like it has the possibility to be increadibly devistating if you could put together a fast horde or three with disposable wounds to protect the synapse.

Might even be able to optimize the stuff on the field to be all AT targets (winged HT's?) or all AP targets tyranid warriors with gaunts? Point being - leave all the "other type" in reserve until you get to sumoning range - thus minimizing the shooting effectiveness of the other force.

Just an idea. Curious on your bug-like thoughts for viability.

I've only ever done that with Hierodules, when they've been my only WEs and I knew the enemy had pinpoint attacks; they were spawned at the end of the turn (Turn 1, of course!) that the enemy spaceship showed up, and survived... Of couse, if they'd been zapped, I guess I would've spawned them up anyway... but the look on my opponent's face was worth it when he saw there were no targets for his death-from-on-high. ?*laugh*

With the current spawning costs, don't think it would be tactically advisable to attempt to spawn your AVs into existence instead of facing enemy fire on the long Turn 1 march. ?If you want to be in effective assault range of the enemy, you're most likely going to be within 30cm of them, or they're going to move a picket unit within 30cm, so you've now got a 1-in-3 chance on not spawning anything, and maxing at 2d3+x... which isn't going to get you much, I'd say it's better to bring it with you!

As a thought exercise it's interesting... but, I suppose I'd just rather garrison my Carnifex Brood up as far as I can than try to spawn it up.

Got it.

OK, this is good to hear. I'm sure what I viewed was a skewed vision considering the bug outnumbering of the IG in that game anyway. (Campaign game) so all is well.

Thanks for the responses guys,
