By the current rules they all "go to ground" as they've ended an assault outside of Synapse range.
Since they've got no Hive Mind control, if they win, they start chowing down and if they lose, they just scatter. That's how I'd rationalize it.
Believe me, it's brutal when the only thing killed on the Tyranid side is a Hive Tyrand killed via a snipers attack in an assault and the whole swarm disappears... eating Eldar Rangers...
