Well, my opponent wanted to give the Termagant Terror another whirl so we randonly selected a list from my "Nasty Tournament Lists" folder and got the following Black Legion list...

Setup, Garrisons, and Deployment
4'x4' Table - edge deployment
Black Legion went for a "maximum dispersion" placement of the Tyranid objectives.
Black Legion kept the Chosen in reserve for teleportation.
Tyranids kept both Lictor swarms in reserve.
Tyranids garrisoned five swarms in cover forward/around all objectives on their side.
Deployment
Black Legion deployed in a staggered battle line with two Feral Titans as outriders and one central, with other units inbetween
Tyranids deployed the remaining three swarms across their deployment zone.

Are Tyranid Objectives 1 and 2 too close to the table edges?
Seems like they are closer than 30cm.

Turn 1
No teleports
Strategy Roll: Black Legion
Feral 3 advances on Swarm 3 and kills 2 Gaunts.
Assault Company 2 follows up by doubling and blasting Swarm 3 and killing 5 more Gaunts.
Swarm 4 doubles up and fires on Assault Company 2 placing a single blast marker.
Swarm 3 prepares to engage Assault Company 2, notices the Hive Mind isn't paying attention, and decides to hold and shoot? for 1 BM.
The Black Legion Armoured Company doubles against Swarm 4? killing a mere 2 Gaunts. (A curse-word is uttered.)
Swarm 1 goes on to overwatch.
Feral 2 advances on Brood 3, and despite having an ignore cover weapon, scores no hits. (Another curse-word is uttered.)
Swarm 2 doubles on Feral 2 and places a blast marker.
Assault Company 1 advances on Swarm 2, killing 5 Gaunts.
Wanting to feel big and important, Swarm 5 spawns and produces 10 more Gaunts. (I just did that for fun and I hadn't used a spawning action yet!)
Feral 1 advances on Swarm 2? and kills 1 Gaunt.
Swarm 6 marches forward.
Swarm 7 tries to go on overwatch to guard the Blitz, but holds instead, just milling about.
Finally, Swarm 8 marches forward as well.
Rallies: The presence of nearby Tyranids and the absence of the Supreme Commander means all Black Legion units fail to rally? (Yet another curse-word is uttered.)

Actually, they're right *on* the table edges... the "neutral" edges, as it were. ?The "more that 30cm from edge" only applies to the opponent's table edge, not all table edges... can make for some *very* interesting placements...
(Don't tell me that's a *second* trick I've taught an old dog Tactica... *cough* rally re-roll *cough*)

(Tactica, please read my response to your Objective placement question on the previous page.)
Turn 2
The Chosen teleport into a densely co-mingled placement within the ranks of the Armoured Company and very close to Assault Company 2 and Feral 2? they receive 2 blast markers for this odd maneuver. (My opponent debated with himself for a while about whether to do a combine assault or not with all his armour and Chosen.)

Strategy Roll: Black Legion
The Chosen prepare to engage the co-mingled Swarms 3, 4, and 8? "You want me to do WHAT, Master?", but are encouraged by the potential support fire of the close packed armour units and Titan. In they charge? The Chosen face a withering 36 attacks from the massed Tyranids, and only 4 of their members succumb to the acidic onslaught. Their sacrifice completely wipes out Swarm 4 and pushes the other two swarms back, even though the Chosen are broken in the process.

The Armoured Company pursues Swarm 2 blasting away 5 Gaunts and a Tyranid Warrior.
The thought of revenge alien to their group-mind, Swarm 3 still surges forward to engage the Armoured Company, under the support of Feral 2. Four Gaunts are killed, but the Chaos Predators are completely ripped apart.
Swarm 2 swarms forward as well, engulfing Feral 2. Two Termagants are crushed, 2 Void Shields dropped, and the Chaos Titan is pushed back by the wall of scrabbling flesh.
Assault Company 2 advances to fire on Swarm 2 and hitting Swarm 3 as well; the first swarm loses 4 Gaunts and the other loses 2.
Assault Company 1 reverses things, advancing to fire on Swarm 3 and hitting the single Warrior remaining of Swarm 2. Both swarms lose a Warrior, meaning Swarm 2 has been eliminated, and Swarm three also loses 3 more Gaunts.
Swarm 6 doubles up to fire on Feral 1, laying a blast marker.
Feral 3 advances on Swarm 3 and kills 4 Termagants.
Swarm 8 doubles on the broken Chosen and their fire disrupts the one non-fearless unit in the formation, the one containing the Chaos Champion.
Feral 1 advances on Swarm 3 and kills 3 Gaunts.
Feeling a little bloated, Swarm 5 fails to act and holds their ground.
Swarm 7 marches towards the action.
While Swarm 1 marches to Chaos Objective 1.
Rallies: Feral 1 and the Chosen fail to rally?

This is just sick reading. Poor black legions...Don't seem to be able to do much of a dent to the swarm.

Turn 3
One group of Lictors shows up in the rocks near the broken Chosen while another group lurks in the woods near Assault Company 1?

Strategy Roll: Black Legion
Feral 1 hesitantly advances on Swarm 3, blowing away 2 Gaunts.
Assault Company 1 sustains fire on Swarm 3, killing 3 Gaunts and the swarms remaining Warrior, eliminating the swarm.
Hungry for prey, Lictor 1 prepares to engage the broken remnants of the Chose, but suddenly realize they've misplaced their napkins so they rummage about looking for them instead of attacking. ?(Lictors may just be the *most* disappointing unit I've ever brought to the field in EPIC?)
Feral 3 takes advantage of the Lictors' indecision and engages them. ?The Lictors slowly advance (Round 2!), drawing the Chosen into the fray to dire results? for the Lictors, as the Daemon Prince tears them apart!
Feral 2 barges into Swarm 8, with many obscured by the nearby ruins. ?The Feral takes damage, losing 2DC, but killing 10 Termagants and a Warrior.
Swarm 8 attempts to sustain fire on the damaged Feral 2, but fails, fires poorly, and places a blast marker which breaks the Chaos war machine.
Assault Company 2 advances to align their guns on Swarm 8. ?The massed firepower shatters 2 Gaunts and the remaining Tyranid Warrior, eliminating the swarm, and racking up a total of 8 dead Tyranid Warriors for the Black Legion!
Brood 7 doubles on Assault Company 2, claiming both Tyranid Objective 2 and laying a blast marker on the Decimators.
Brood 6 advanced on Assault Company 2, grabbing both Tyranid Objective 1 and Chaos Objective 1.
Brood 5 marches back to the Tyranid Blitz feeling very important?
End of Turn: Black Legion 1 (BTS) vs Tyranids 3 (Defend the Flags, T-n-H, TSNP)

Well, that was a heck of a fight... but still not that close.
That Black Legion list was one of my "Tournament Killers", tweaked a bit by my opponent, that's been very tough for people to beat: tonnes of MW, ignore cover weapons, war engines, and nasty engage units.
But it still barely held on against the Terror... other than better die rolls, my opponent isn't sure what he could've done differently... there's just so many things you need to take out.
Neither of us can think of how a blind tournament list could defeat this monstrosity as it stands.
I really think the lessening of Termagants to 10 points and the 100 point twin-warriors has a far more synergistic effect than first realized.
Heck, I was even considering suggesting that, since this is a Phase IV army list, maybe Common Broods should be "A minimum of 25% up to a maximum of 50% of points may be spent on Common Broods" as a solution.
