Well, we were able to squeeze in a third game today, and it involved the Titan Legions.  The Tyranids actually felt fear there for a bit!

More to come...

Well if Chroma can get his hieropant into BtB with any of these titans, the titan will die. ?The problem is all those MW attacks that the warlord has 8x4+ and 8x3+ :wow:  luckily it is only 4x4+ and 4x3+ a turn ???

However the titan weapons are very well done.

The warlord is anti RA AV and WE.

Tempestas is an assault fiend

and Incendo Telum will scythe though infantry swrams at range to stop the nids swamping titans to death.

Going to be an interesting read.

Setup

Objectives

Titan Legion chose the NW corner of the board and placed their Blitzkrieg directly on the corner. ?Tyranid Blitzkrieg was placed against the southern table edge at the far western end of the deployment zone, essentially the middle of the edge. ?One Titan Legion objective was placed in the ruins north of the central temple ruins and the other was placed in the centre of the forested region west of the temple. ?On the Tyranid side, one objective was placed on the table in the crook of the hill while the other was placed right near the midline in the large open area NE of the temple ruins.

Garrisons

Tyranids kept the Lictor unit and both Synapse Nodes off-board and nothing in the Spawn Pool.

Titan Legion placed no garrisons.

Warrior Brood 1 was garrisoned in the small forest right at the crest of the hill with a brood of 3 Raveners, 4 Hormagaunts, and 4 Termagants.

Deployment

Emperor's Vengeance was deployed two thirds down the edge of the northern leg of the deployment zone with Tempestas close by its side, about 15cm back west.

Incendo Telum was deployed in the middle of the western hillock, standing proud!

Hive Tyrant 1 was deployed 20cm east of the Blitz with a brood of 2 Dacto-Exocrine and 3 Zoanthopes.

The Hierophant was placed just ahead of the Blitz at the edge of the hill, with Hive Tyrant 2's brood of 3 Carnifex and 2 Hierodules arrayed in a ragged line before it.

Warrior Brood 2 was along the southern facing of the hill with a massive brood of 9 Termagants, 6 Hormagaunts, 5 Gargoyles, and 3 Raveners.

Turn 1

No teleports

Strategy Roll: Titan Legion

With the glorious Imperial March blaring out of its loudspeakers the Legate double's the Emperor's Vengeance forward, discharging both Plasma Destructors on the cowering creatures of Warrior Brood 1: 3 Hormagaunts, 2 Termagants, and 1 Ravener are vapourized.

Hive Tyrant 1 tries to respond to this danger by sustaining fire on the Warlord Titan, but fails to get the attention of the Dacto-Excocrine feasting on the remains of fallen Space Marines so instead spawns 2 Termagants, 1 Hormagaunt, and a Ravener.

Tempestas marches forward to meet the foe, rapidly closing the gap as it strides down the rubble choked streets to the middle of the battlefield.

Warrior Brood 2 responds in kind, also marching to the middle of the battlefield, spreading itself out in the ruins near the mighty Reaver.

Incendo Telum advances; firing its weapons at Warrior Brood 1 hiding in the ruins it only manages to drop a single Hormagaunt and a single Termagant. ?(Gotta love cover saves!)

Tyrant Brood 2 doubles forward towards the Tempestas, firing acid and venom but only succeeding in laying a single blastmarker.

The Hive Mind urges the Heirophant forward towards the nearest Reaver Titan, but something about the sight of these towering metal monstrosities gives it a funny feeling in its liver and it only cautiously moves forward, sticking to the forest.

Warrior Brood 2 takes its massive brood on a rapid march along the eastern edge of the battlefield, staying low and out of sight behind the crest of the hill. ?Perhaps the rears of these strange walking creatures will not be as dangerous as their fronts?

Turn 2

No teleports

Strategy Roll: Titan Legion

Seeing the danger Tempestas is in, Incendo Telum advances to support range and powers fire in to the armoured hides of Tyrant Brood 2. ?The massive alien beast shriek and roar under the painful barrage, but in the end their hyper-evolved hides shrug off the hits with no damage done! ?(We were quite blown away by this? but having so much Reinforced Armour, and the to Heirodules as hit soaks in wasn't totally unbelievable).

Knowing that he who hesitates is despised by the Emperor, the Princeps of the Tempestas strides slightly forward to engage the commingled broods of Hive Tyrant 2 and Warrior Brood 1. ?Incendo Telum also pours in support fire. ?In the end, the assault Reaver has lost all its Void Shields but it has devastated the Tyranids: of the two broods all that remain standing are the Hive Tyrant, the 3 Warriors, and a single Carnifex! ?Victory!

With a defiant scream, Hive Tyrant 2 takes the remnants of Warrior Brood 1 to engage Tempestas in close combat! ?Incendo Telum looks on helplessly as the alien beasts tear great chunks out of its brother Reaver (-4 DC, no crits), its massive frame blocking the line of sight to the enemy and preventing any form of support! ?On its own, the assault Reaver is able to kill the Hive Tyrant and Carnifex, and, though victorious, is unable to dispatch the Tyranid Warriors, though it moves away from them.

Moving like a daemonic spider, the Heirophant charges down the hill to engage Tempestas, but the Titan is out of reach of its claws but the bio-titan is in range of Incendo Telum's support fire! ?The fighting is fierce and the Heirodule suffers the worst for it, in the end the bio-titan is slain, but in its death throes a gout of acid strikes the Tempestas, breaching the reactor core (1 DC, plus crit. ?The combat went on for 2 rounds, but I just couldn't get the bio-titan into close combat? *sigh*)

With the massive alien warbeast slain, Emperor's Vengeance doubles forward to bring its guns to bear, firing the full load of white-hot plasma from its Cannons, on Warrior Brood 1 cowering in the ruins. ?The Legate lets out a loud curse as only two of the alien beasts are killed. ?Well, a single group of the strange aliens certainly isn't a threat?

Hive Tyrant 1 again tries to sustain fire on the Warlord Titan but the high arcing spore mines fail to find their target.

Warrior Brood 2 doubles forward in an attempt to flank the Warlord, its hissing shots not connecting.

Tempestas has taken too much damage, plasma vents from the reactor core searing through leg actuators and, with a groan of tortured metal, the great machine topples to the ground. (It was then my opponent remember that all his Titans had Sacred Icons so they were all inspiring and he would have won all his combats by one more destroying one more creature per attack? and then I reminded him that all he'd ever left behind had been fearless creatures so there would've been no effect? well, it wasn't just the Legate cursing then. ?*laugh*)

Turn 3

Lesser Node 1 grows up out of some ruins near the last survivor of Warrior Brood 1, along with the Lictor Brood. ?Lesser Node 2 pops up right on the Titan Legion Blitz objective.

Strategy Roll: Titan Legion

With a massive wave of alien flesh closing in on it, the Emperor's Vengeance sustains fire on the massive Warrior Brood 2, the Plasma Destructors obliterating 2 Raveners, 4 Termagants, and a single Hormagaunt.

Fearful of the enemy getting a toehold in the rear, Incendo Telum turns and moves back towards friendly lines, ignoring the single Tyranid Warrior hiding in the ruins, and unloads everything on Synapse Node 2, tearing it apart before it could even fully link up with the Hive Mind.

Left to its own devices, the lone Tyranid warrior of Brood 1 calls down 3 Mycetic Spores spawning a massive new Brood of 6 Termagants, 3 Raveners, 3 Carnifex and 3 Hormagaunts while the Imperials can only look on in stark disbelief? it was only one Warrior! (In the end, both my opponent and I agreed that not killing that single Warrior was the beginning of the end for the Titan forces.)

Warrior Brood 2 seizes that advantage and moves its still formidable brood up to engage the Emperor's Vengeance. ?Despite the support of Warrior Brood 1 the Titan only loses 4 Void Shields and get a single scratch (-1 DC, no crit) and all but the Warriors themselves are ground into paste by the holy warmachine. ?(I knew Titans were tough, but I had no idea they were that tough!)

Tyrant Brood 1 tries one more time to harm the Warlord, but its sustained fire only manages to lay a single blast marker. ?(I'm sure an Expectorator would've done much better! ?*laugh*)

Lesser Node 1 spawns more helpers for the battle against the Warlord Titan, producing 2 Raveners and 3 Termagants.

Lurking in the shadows, the Lictors move to strike the Warlord from behind. ?Two Lictors are crushed beneath the feet of the great machine, but, with the support of the surrounding Warrior Broods and Lesser Node 1 the Titan is brutalized (-6DC, 1 crit) and it withdraws from the fight in a desperate hope of regrouping.

It is not to be; lights flash and alarms ring as more plasma is vented from the reactor, seriously damaging the controls of the Titan. ?The Legate commends his soul to the Emperor as His Vengeance collapses down into a heap of scarred metal.

End of turn: Titan Legion 0 (none) v.s. Tyranids 2 (Break Their Spirit, They Shall Not Pass)

What a fight! ?It was a lot closer than it looked. ?That single Warrior is what changed the tide of battle. ?Without its respawned Brood I think the game would've definitely gone into Turn 4. ?In fact, if my opponent had moved to engage it and the Lesser Node (and the Lictors!) he might have been able to snag BTS and They Shall Not Pass?

Well, next time he's going to take a little more infantry to help the Big Guys? *laugh*

Sounds like another bloody battle.

How did the hierodules fair.  The only referance I can see is them being a bullet shield!

Was a lot closer than it looked in the end, I must say.

As to the Heirodules, they performed admirably, but died in resolution, being the only non-fearless units in the fight.  Seems strange that Carnifex are fearless, but Heirodules aren't, it's definitely a strike against them, though I really like them.

As well, I *totally* forgot that they were brood creatures and that I could respawn them!  *laugh* I won't forget again.
