Well, I can't get to sleep so I'm going to start the next battle report as well. Just gonna post the armies and such. |

Rules Changes Used Genestealers: 6-9 models at 25 points each Termagants: 15 points, CC 6+ and FF5+ Hormagaunts and Raveners: 15cm move, Infiltrate Lictors: 200 points for 3, only one MW attack, gain Commander ability Dacto-Exocrines: Super Spore Mines 45cm 1BP, Indirect Fire, Disrupt Lesser Synapse Node: gain Scout ability and "Ripper Swarms", CC6+ and FF6+ Greater Synapse Node: gain "Ripper Swarms", CC6+ and FF6+ Spawning: 1 pip per Common Brood, 2 pips per Uncommon Brood/DC Tyranid BTS Goal - 50% or more Synapse Creatures destroyed. Armies Tyranid Horde - 2500 Points Synapse Hive Tyrant 2 x Tyranid Warrior Units 4 x Lesser Synapse Nodes Independent Broods 2 x Lictor 1 x Genestealer Brood of 6 Common Broods 12 Termagants 12 Hormagaunts 9 Raveners Uncommon Broods 3 x Dacto-Exocrine 3 x Carnifex - Venomfex 3 x Haruspex 4 x Zoanthrope 3 x Mycetic Spores Biel-Tan Eldar - 2500 points (actually, it's a 2600 point list, but we didn't realize that until after the battle was over!) Aspect Warrior Warhost 1 4 Striking Scorpions 4 Dire Avengers +1 Dire Avenger Exarch +1 Dire Avenger Autarch Aspect Warrior Warhost 2 8 Shining Spears +2 Shining Spear Exarchs Aspect Warrior Warhost 3 8 Warp Spiders +2 Warp Spider Exarchs Guardian Warhost 3 Heavy Weapon Platforms 3 Support Platforms Fire Prism Troupe Engine of Vaul Troupe (BTS goal) 2 x Scorpions 1 x Storm Serpent Nightwing Interceptors Same battle field as the previous fight: big midline rigde, ruins on one side, forests on the other Biel-Tan player choose to play the ruined cityscape of the eastern side of the board, placing his Blitzkrieg near the middle of his table edge while I place the Tyranid Blitz in the NW corner of the board. ?One objective on Tyranid side was placed about a third in from the deployment edge middle of the board between two forest areas while the second was placed almost directly against the southern side of the board right out in the open. ?One objective on Biel-Tan side were placed on the ridge as near as possible to the middle and the mid-placed Tyranid objective while the second was place in a ruin much nearer the deployment edge on the southern half of the board. |

Setup Garrisons Biel-Tan kept the Shining Spears in the Webway and had nothing else to garrison. Tyranids kept both Lictor units and two Synapse Nodes off-board and 6 Hormagaunts in the Spawn Pool. SNL 1 was garrisoned in a forested area north of the centrally deployed forward objective along with 2 Exocrine, 1 Carnifex, 1 Haruspex, 1 Zoanthrope, 1 Ravener, and 3 Termagants. ? SNL2 was garrisoned in a forested area south of the same objective with 1 Exocrine, 1 Carnifex, 1 Haruspex, 1 Zoanthrope, 1 Ravener, and 3 Termagants. ? Warrior Brood 1 was garrisoned forward of this same objective somewhat between the two Synapse Nodes and under the AA umbrella of the Zoanthropes with 3 Raveners, 2 Hormagaunts, and 3 Termagants. Warrior Brood 2 garrisoned near the southern objective with 2 Raveners, 1 Zoanthrope, 1 Hormagaunt, and 3 Termagants. Deployment Biel-Tan deployed in two blocks: the Warp Spider Warhost was hidden in ruins near the NE corner of the board with the Autarch and his Aspects nearer to the centre with the Engines of Vaul between them. ? The Guardians and Fire Prisms were setup south of the Blitz, both protected by ruins and near the forward edge of the deployment zone. Tyranids deployed the Hive Tyrant, along with 1 Carnifex, 1 Haruspex, a Zoanthrope, 2 Raveners and 3 Hormagaunts, near the Blitz protected by forest. Lastly, the Genestealers were positioned near the southern corner of the table, protected by woods at the forward edge of the deployment zone. (I decided not to garrison the 'Stealers this time because they kept getting killed before I could do anything with them, this way I could maneuver them to where they'd be needed without facing a hail of first turn fire? people seem scared of them for some reason?) |

Turn 1 No teleports Strategy Roll - Biel-Tan The Fire Prisms pop up on sustained fire and blast Warrior Brood 1, obliterating three innocent Raveners. ?(Shades of the last game?) In retaliation, Synapse Node 1 prepares to bombard the weaker flesh, but something the Exocrines ate disagrees with them so the Node sends some of its brood forward towards Warrior Brood 1. The mighty Engines of Vaul power up, moving forward and upward aligning their guns with the bio-artillery of Node 1, but something in the beauty of the leaves of the trees that surround the Tyranid horrors distracts them and they score *no* hits. (That might have been my first big break of the day.) Node 2 sustains fire on the Autarch's Warhost, inflicting an awesome 4 hits despite the shelter of the Imperial ruins. ?No Aspect Warriors are killed, but the clouds of spores severely hamper the Eldar leader. Warrior Brood 2 moves up to crest the central peak and spawns more broodlings to help it in the coming fight birthing 3 Raveners and 3 Hormagaunts. The Autarch, seeing the rising tide of alien death before him marshals his forces moving into a better position and resettling his warriors. (All blast markers removed.) Warrior Brood 1 also moves forward, edging through ruins, and spawns 6 Hormagaunts to replace the fallen Raveners. The Warp Spiders rapidly jump forward, pushing their warp generators to the max, to position themselves between the Engines of Vaul and the Tyranid Warriors that claim to be kings of the hill. The Genestealers scuttle forward covering wide swaths of ground to secret themselves in ruins on the enemy's side of the battlefield, hungrily eyeing the Guardians. Screaming out of the sky, the Nightwing formation launches a ground attack against the Hive Tyrant's brood, one of the flyers is blasted out of the sky by a warp bolt and the weapons of the remaining aircraft are unable to harm the aliens. Spurred on by the aerial assault, the Hive Tyrant hotfoots its brood forward climbing halfway up the hill in anticipation of carnage to come. ?(How right the Tyrant was!) The Guardians, seeing the approaching 'Stealers, prepare to fire at them, but the disturbing movements of the aliens wither their resolve and they move into a better fire position instead. In the Webway, the Shining Spears wait for the proper time to strike? |

Turn 2 No teleports. ?Warrior Brood 2 snags a Carnifex, a Haruspex, a Zoanthrope, and a Ravener from the brood Node 1 sent forward. No Tyranids go to ground. Strategy Roll - Biel-Tan Done with looking at leaves in their targetters, the Engines of Vaul instead turn their attention to the Hive Tyrant and, floating high on their gravitic thrusters, sustain fire on its brood. ?As the massive pulses of laser fire fade all that are left standing are a Ravener, a Zoanthrope, and a dazed Carnifex. ?The EOV settle back down, satisfied with their work. Disputing the claim of Warrior Brood 2, the Warp Spiders engage them in a web of razor sharp monofilament. ?This battle is the stuff that legends and Phoenix Lords are made of! ?After three nasty rounds of combat only the two Exarchs are left standing and nine Tyranid monsters have been dispatched. ?The Tyranids are pushed back (dang those Inspiring Exarchs!) and the Warp Spiders rapidly move away to safety (broken). The Genestealers prepare to launch themselves against the Guardians, but the slaughter of so many of their broodmates gives them pause so they remain lurking in the ruins. Emboldened by this, the Guardians sustain fire on the Genestealers with their weapon platforms, but only one of the creatures is dispatched. The Fire Prisms again pop-up and sustain fire on Warrior Brood 1, killing 3 Hormagaunts. Synapse 2 has its Exocrine fling more spore bombs at the Autarch, but this time the Eldar are ready and the acidic explosions have no effect. A shimmering portal opens up in front of the Storm Serpent and the sleek jetbikes of the Shining Spears race forth to finish off Warrior Brood 2. ?It seems the Tyranids evolved in the short time between attacks as none of their hides are pierced and 4 Shining Spears go down in flames yet the inspiring warcries of the Exarchs force the Tyranids back (combat resolution difference of 1? *sigh*); considering this a pyrrhic victory the remaining Aspects fallback to consider a new approach. Synapse Node 1 again urges its Exocrines to drop spores on the broken units of Aspect Warriors, but they're still not feeling good enough to shoot. ?In alien frustration, the Node spawns a larger brood instead (So mad it had kittens!). The Nightwings make another pass, dodging anti-aircraft fire as they make a strafing run on Warrior Brood 2. ?Unfortunately for the Eldar, no hits are scored. Battered and bleeding, and with no enemies in range to engage, the rather shooty Warrior Brood 2 advances and fires on the Engines of Vaul scoring multiple hits on the lead Scorpion and doing 2 points of damage, suppressing one of the great war engines. The Autarch moves his soldiers forward. ?Still sheltered by the ruins, he puts them all in a position to take the hill from the Tyranid Warriors. Confused by the loss of their leader the 3 remaining creatures of the Tyrant's brood try to move rapidly forward towards the sounds of battle and the call of the synapse from the Warriors, but become lost and stumble over towards Synapse Node 1, just getting into the reassuring hum of the Hive Mind. Warrior Brood 1 sees the need for more living bodies; moving forward they call down a Mycetic Spore laden with 5 Raveners and 2 Hormagants: the Eldar visibly pale. Despite this setback, all the Eldar formations regain their composure, ready to turn back the alien tide. |

Turn 3 Synapse Nodes erupt from the ground: one at the Tyranid Blitz and one at the Eldar. ?As well, two bands of Lictors lurking in the ruins near the Eldar reveal themselves. ?No Tyranids go to ground. Strategy Roll - Biel-Tan With a loud shout, the Autarch takes his Aspect Warriors, along with the remnants of the Shining Spears, in a frontal assault against the Tyranid Warriors on the hill, with support from the Engines of Vaul. ?Only one Shining Spear is killed (must have been a bad batch of jetbikes) while 2 Tyranid Warriors, 2 Raveners, a Carnifex, and Haruspex are slaughtered. ?The Tyranids are left without a Synapse and are finally pushed from the hill as the Autarch moves back to protect the Guardians and EOV and the three Shining Spears move toward the northern flank. The Engines of Vaul again soar high on gravitic wings and align their weapons with the remaining Exocrine of Node 1 (the other had been snagged by Warrior Brood 2 at the start of the turn as it had wound up closer to a Warrior when they fell back from one of the assaults. ?Initially I considered it was a mistake, but I was able to use it to my advantage.)? and again fail to score a single hit. ?(My second break of the game.) Newly arrived near the Eldar Blitzkrieg, Synapse Node 4, with the help of Mycetic Spores, gives birth to more horrors: a Carnifex, a Haruspex, 2 Raveners, and a Termagant. Node 1 attempts to return fire on the EOV, but the remaining Exocrine will have none of that and disobeys, rooting around the trees for truffles and grubs. In frustration the Node sends all its brood forward? hopefully to die! ?(Guess my luck ran out again.) The Fire Prisms maneuver to a position to support the Guardians and Aspects while firing their Prism Cannon at the recently formed Synapse Node nearby and manage to obliterate it leaving its spawn behind. Despite having no Warriors, the Brood-of-the-Hill advances and, with the help of the newly acquired Exocrine, drops spores and bile on the commingled Guardians, Autarch, and Fire Prisms killing 4 Guardians and a single Striking Scorpion. Lictor Brood 1 calls to the Genestealers to attack the Guardians, but their signals get crossed so they stay lurking. (I love the idea of Lictors having commander to bring other broods to the enemy, but I'll be danged if I've had it really work yet! *sigh*). Feeling nigh invulnerable the two Warp Spider Exarchs jump back to engage the Lictor Brood near the Blitzkrieg in a "6cm firefight". ?Their monofilament webs catch two of their prey and the remaining Lictors slashs its claws in frustration? until a hail of spines and venom from the supporting remnants of Synpase 4's brood scythes down both Aspect Warriors. Swelling with anger and bolstered by a mighty following, Warrior Brood 1 charges into the commingled Autach's Warhost, Guardians, and Fire Prism. ?The battle is titanic, but in the end, despite the support of the Engines of Vaul, all the Aspect Warriors are slain, the Farseer is dead, and there are still many Tyranid creatures left. ?The shattered Guardians and Fire Prisms flee as far as they can. In desperation, the Nightwings tear down out of the sky blasting the lone Lictor on their Blitzkrieg (That one model was securing both Blitzkrieg and Take-and-Hold!) but they are unable to dislodge it and sorrowfully soar back into the sky to report the terrible slaughter below. The Genestealers, satisfied at merely having survived the fight, sit quietly in the ruins watching everyone else do the work (I love 'Stealers, but I can't get them to do squat!). The single Lictor of Brood 2 just enjoys his coffee on the Blitzkrieg. End of turn: ?Biel-Tan 0 vs Tyranids 3 (Blitzkrieg, Take and Hold, They Shall Not Pass) WOOHOO! ?A victory! ?Usually it's me fielding the Eldar, but I really enjoyed crushing them this time! You may have noticed that my opponent failed to bring in the Avatar; in all his excitement to get his Autarch into that combined assault he forgot about summoning him at the start of the turn? the danger of the single-minded Exarch, I suppose! I still need to comment on our changes and experiments, but I've got one more fight lined up before I do that. Tomorrow the Tyranids face the other "t" army... the very shooty Tau! |

Hey primarch and Hena! ?Thanks for the kind words. Yeah, maps and pics would be good; I do have a digital camera. ?*sigh* ?I have snapped a few pics of some of the fights, but we're usually getting too caught up in the game to maintain journalistic integrity! ?For these fights I'd just come up with a log system to record the turns so once we've mastered that I suppose maps and pics have to come next. I've really enjoyed doing these reports and I hope I can do some more. |

Yet again Chroma you have turned a routine battle rep into a comady sketch, well done. useful and enjoyable. Now if I can only get this desire to convert a 40k lictor to hold a cup of coffee and a ripper brood of kittens out of my head I will be a happy bunny. |
