Hi,

At the moment the SNL costs 30 points, the SNG costs 100.

3SNL for the price of 1SNG!

The three SNL:

are cheeper (10 points)
are harder to kill (BM will not get two hits)(titan killer extra wounds wasted)
have more activations (2)
have more sysnapse coverage
can teleport

I have built and painted 6SNL and 2SNG but am yet to use the SNG because of the above.

I suggest changing the points to at least 40, probably 50, to at least give some incentive for taking the SNG.

Cheers Scott

PS My last three opponents all mentioned how cheep they were, with raised eye brows and voices!

Lesser nodes are not fearless.  Therefore, any lost assault means they are automatically destroyed, even if the hack down hits are not enough to kill them.  In fact, they are the only synapse creature that is not Fearless.

I would definitely not agree that they are harder to kill than greater nodes.

Okay

3SNL are harder to kill with shooting.

3SNL require three formations to enagage and win combat resolution with a model within 15cm compared with doing 3unsaved wounds on 4+ Reinforced.

I'd say that's harder, Neil obviously disagrees, it's close.

Is fearless worth the extra?

Scott

Hi Scott and Guys,

You gentlemen make excellent points and I'll have to make some changes.

Thanks for starting this topic.

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

Or you can deploy them within an existing brood.  So you can have your assult brood with an art brood tagging along.  Then teleport down the SNLs so then only pick up the art brood.  Besides at 100pts I would take 3 SNL over a single WE class SNG.  I still think that the best approach is to limit them relative to the number of SNG.  Since the fluff is that they are immature versions of the SNG that ar spouting in front of the advancing nid swarms.

Sorry Hena, taking the brood as formation of 3 makes them too similar to SNG. I like what they do at the moment.

ragnarok, I like limiting them to the number of SNG, though I'm not sure they might still need a slight points hike. 3to1 or 2to1?

It is hard to say if it should be 2:1 or 3:1.  I'm tempted to say 3, a common number for nids.  Though 2 might be a bit better.  Only play testing can tell.

What sort of points hike were you thinking of.  I'm thinking about
5-10pts.

Hi :

When we first discussed the Lesser Synapse Node, I also thought that it would be a pain to engage one small SN with a leman russ company to blow up one small unit...

I have played lesser synapses nodes in formations of 3 units for 90 pts. They teleport together and voila.

But, my opponent said he would still have no incentive to shoot them : if only one survives, it will perform exactly as well as if three are there (bar coverage, especially if they are given Scout)...

One thing is sure, I would not link the number of LSN to the number of greater ones. In the first stages of the invasion, you only get small nodes, not big ugly ones...

And the last thing, I really, really find it odd to have them disappear when out of formation (though scout and WE partially solves that). Am I the only one to find it silly to have a chain of  gaunts every 5 cms from the node to the prey? Looks like kids going out on a school trip, don't they? :p

Oh it's silly alright, we were calling it the "creature conga line" when we first discovered it, it's why we gave the SNL scout in our local group.

How are people generally using the SNLs? ?I've been buying 3-4 and usually deploy at least two as garrisons enabling me to garrison artillery and Heirodules way up the board in the beginning along with assault spawn and other Synapse creatures to be able to move them forward; any brood with a movement of greater than 15cm. ?That is one of the main reasons I don't think Tyranid artillery needs the same long range as Imperial artillery because it can start further ahead. ?As well, technically, I believe you could even garrison the Dominatrix if you started her in a combined brood with a Node... allong with a couple Heirodules that would be terrifying to see!

Usually I only keep 1-2 around to teleport in during later turns and they often get popped in an engage with a light skirmish unit.

Mort de rire!

Do Tyranids like partying?

Conga!

:D

(And yes, small nodes are wiped out after teleport since Nids never get initiative unless they bribe the referee)

At the moment I'm using 4-6 nodes, some are garisoned with biovores and Dactos, and the rest come down on an objective and spawn as soon I get the initiative. I usually stick more than one down per objective (more than 5cm apart). It's then the enemies choice - take out lone synapse nodes while there is no shield or recieve a charge from something else.

So far they've all gone for prevent the charge!
