A friend of mine is returning to epic, and looking for ideas to pimp his nids. It's not my area of expertise, so if anyone can offer advice please do. How do you think that this will fare in a 3000 point tourney? Quote: The plan is to have
- 2 infiltrators to pressure areas in the back line - enough firepower to get past skimmer screens - enough synapse to replace dead dudes - 12 biovores to hamper enemy units before assaulting - enough CC to do something once i get there I have 10 activations and the units are as follows: NEXUS SWARM [390] 1 Dominatrix, Termagants, Hormagants TYRANID SWARM (S) [440] 6 Termagants, Hive Tyrant, Tyranid Warriors, 2 Hormagants, Carnifex, 2 Exocrine TYRANID SWARM (S) [390] 6 Termagants, Hive Tyrant, Tyranid Warriors, 2 Hormagants, Carnifex, Exocrine TYRANID SWARM (S) [390] 6 Termagants, Tyranid Warriors, Hive Tyrant, Carnifex, 2 Hormagants, Exocrine TYRANID SWARM (S) [310] Two Tyranid Warriors, 6 Termagants, 3 Hormagants, Exocrine GENESTEALER SWARM [300] 10 Genestealers, Brood Lord BIOVORE SWARM (S) [175] 6 Biovore BIOVORE SWARM (S) [175] 6 Biovore LICTOR SWARM [250] 5 Lictor EXOCRINE SWARM (S) [175] 3 Exocrine |

I've never tried exocrine in tryanid swarms. Beyond that, 4 strong lictors have been my max as they're usually targeted before you can use them (sr1 and all). Might want to try something other than the second biovore swarm. Reports from the games would be welcome. |

Some tips: - Split the Exocrines into a separate formation. They slow down the foot swarms, and have a different role. An extra activation doesn't hurt either. - In the Hive Tyrant swarms, I generally add enough AVs that all infantry can get cover to hit modifiers; The extra AVs are also good ablative wounds, protecting the Tyrant against AT shooting. Carnifexes are good, being fearless (so they don't vanish when the swarm loses an assault or gets broken) and supplying MW attacks. - No need for adding gaunts to swarms, better to create a separate swarm. There's enough added gaunts in this list to create an additional swarm. Here's an alternative list, which uses almost the same units (you'll need a 5 more carnifexes and an extra warrior) Quote: Incompertus, 2990 POINTS

Fexes are probably the best choice as NetEA Nids are easily broken. I like Exos in Swarms coupled with Zoantrophes, though. |

I'd take Harridans before Exocrines from the specialist formations. 2x6 Biovores is an excellent choice. I would neither expand genestealers nor lictors beyond their starting number. It is better to keep them cheap to afford more activations and use them as teleporting threat and scout screen. Additional synapse and 2-3 AV is a very solid small swarm. 4 Malefactor makes for a surprisingly tough and useful BTS. Keep swarms @ the 250-350 points' mark and you will have lots of useful swarms. You need the AVs or numbers to win engagements. AVs to soak hits and reduce losses or numbers to win by kills. The unupgraded swarm is weak but good for flanking, threatening and baiting. If left alone, it can swarm itself to usefulness. Carnifex BTS is another good one. Tough and fearless. /Fredmans |
