I have been attending Giant Fanatic 16 (2014) in Copenhagen, where we had a small Epic tournament using the NetEA armylists. In all I played four games and placed somewhere in the middle of the field, which as much as I could have hoped for. It took a while, and a lot of commutes with the laptop, to do this write up. Enjoy ![]() 3K Space Marines vs. Tyranids - 3/10-2014 - Giant Fanatic 16 Link to battle report 3K Tau vs. Tyranids - 4/10-2014 - Giant Fanatic 16 Link to battle report 3K Tyranids vs. Tyranids - 4/10-2014 Link to battle report 3K Orks vs. Tyranids - 4/10-2014 Link to battle report Reflection: I forgot my lictors in most games. It was not made easier by games ending early due to time constraints. I'm probably just as much the one to blame here, as any of my opponents. AA failed big time on my dominatrix, but at least opponents still tend to think twice before entering the AA bobble. A lot of unfortunate armor rolls on my bigger bugs... Except on my dominatrix in the battle against Tau. Tyranids, at least the way I play them, tend to depend a little too much on cover, and therefore the table setup, for effectiveness. Swarming feels "niddy", where as retreat combined with "reactive engagements", where you slowly grind your opponents army down, feels more like the strategy employed by Stalin's Red Army in the first half of WW2. All in all a nice event, where I got some games in, met new people, experienced new armies and last, but not least, got to know my "bugs" a little more. Thanks to SpeakerToMachines for putting in the effort to arrange this event. ![]() |

Thanks for sharing! Nice reports with pretty pictures ![]() Quote:
This line caught my eye. It's wrong. They can indeed shoot without line of sight, that's what indirect fire is about. ![]() The limitations are, they have to use sustain fire order and secondly the weapon actually has to have the indirect fire rule. A barrage weapon without the indirect rule (like ork Soopa-guns for instance) must have line of sight. |

Thanks for the reports. Looked like a fun tournament with great terrain. By the way, your nid colour scheme looked remarkably like my own. Great painting and bases. ![]() /Fredmans |

Nice reports. Quote: We had a strange situation where the Tau could not shoot the Tyranid swarm because there were more than 10cm intervening terrain. However it was close enough for a firefight. "Our cannons and big guns cannot hit... but our rifles can..." Does this make sense? You don't count cover modifier when firefighting, but out of LOS is out of LOS even in Firefights. Quote: Also I realized that the Tyrant cannot claim cover from the ruins as he is an AV, let alone occupy a building together with his swarm. At least I cannot find anything in the army book allowing him to take advantage of cover in ruins or buildings. Yes, he's a small tank. Overall AVs are poor choices in Tyranid armies. |

I find the Tyranid AVs work excellent in cover - yes they don't get cover saves, but they do get cover to-hit modifiers, and they suffer no risk of damage from terrain. |

I find tyranid AV excellent in the NetEA army list. They can use terrain, get the -1 save modifier, and contribute with much needed toughness in assaults where gaunts count for losses. They also provide cover for the infantry if I have to cross open terrain /Fredmans |

I can't use the NetEA list here. Nobody will let me play with a list that spawns dead units AND rallies broken fms on a 2+. That's ridiculous really. |

They also have lackluster shooting, mediocre FF and no real rapid re-deployment options. In our local area, we definitely don't find them overpowered at all, just very different to use and face. In this small tournament, 2 of 5 players used NetEA tyranids, and they placed 3 and 4. Hardly domineering... |

Yes, they are not overpowering, they are just dull to play. Like spilling a liquid over the battlefield. You can't kill them or shift them. Boring, really. |

I agree with Carlos. The UK version is by far superior. |

I don't. I find it to be boring and unimaginative compared to netEA. But let's refrain from a netEA - epicUK bash, I don't think we need that. |
