Hi,

Logging an almost-complete battle with the 10.1 developmental list, my first game with the list and a radical departure from my usual Eldar playstyle.

http://sdahl.net/~sdahl/whepic/20130423/

The list worked well enough, it did give a good Tyranid feel. Swarming was fine, I got all lost gaunts back every turn, and absorption worked well enough to turn a mostly useless swarm into a substantial reinforcement for another. Special rules in general were not too confusing in this game.

Some specific comments and questions:

- The Lictors seems decidedly sub-par, it seems like their only purpose is to draw a first activation that won't then do other mischief. Any advice on how to use them better?

- The lack of AA is telling, but it's in the spirit of the list, so no complaints about that. I'd have liked to use, say, Meiotic spore mines as independent "barrage balloon" formations, though. The airspace over an advancing swarm is supposed to have the odd floating explosives, after all. Then the zoanthrope could lose the slightly artifical AA shot, too, perhaps getting an 30cm AP5+/AT4+ shot instead, which seems more in keeping with the psychic zaps.

- The requirement to take a synapse formation per support formation is very constraining, and does achieve the "horde of little bugs" intent. But from a collecting and modelling perspective, it would be nice to be able to use Gargoyles as well as Gaunts as the "basic" beasts. It would prompt the inclusion of Gargoyles, who seems a little underwhelming as it is, in small swarms, and it would ease the basic Gaunt minimum to collect before a Tyranid army could be considered, if Gargoyles could substitute for some of them.

Thanks for the report StM.

On the Lictors, I usually take 4 and try to put them where they won't get shot (10cm of cover all around) and within charge range. It's tempting to use them to ZoC but they're too fragile when out in the open. In general I try to use them to take out small (3-8 unit) low CC formations, or as a suicide SC assassination team.
