Agreed, it needs clarification.

I'd assume that EUK meant "cannot capture or contest" but I'm not sure.

As it stands EUK non-synapse formations can still contest. It tries to force an opponent to hammer a formation at a time otherwise they can still come back.

One way to combat e&c's list is to make 4x gargoyles compulsory in the harridan purchase. Hence the formation would be 250 points. It would be more cinematic, and if people have an issue with ap fire, then keep your gargoyles in the harridans.

This may also start to encourage the use of other formations as one attempts to min-max. Then you tackle that etc etc.

Another way might be to realize that the Harridan is actually worth more than 150 points.

Testing will tell.

Oddly enough that's what EUK did when we tested their list at the Cambridge tournament and offered up similar "harridans, OMG" opinions. :-)

Note that I'd just swap over to Genestealers and spam them instead, for starters, and then just spam Termagant hordes if Genestealers got redacted. Most of the rest isn't worth bothering with at all, including 90% of the formation upgrades, IMO.

I just wonder whether this list used any of the variants for ideas rather than just stats. It appears that some or even many fixes could be found in the variants.

I want to say that this is the starting point, not the end result. Guess I should have prefaced this thread with that. I'm sure there are some abusive builds for this, but I'd like to see some battle reports first. I'm also sure that things need adjusting, again though I'd like to see some battle reports before things are changed. I'd definitely like to see some playtests for the lists that have been put forward and will probably start with high-activation count ones myself.

In short, roll some dice guys. Something new will be out in three months or so if I can get around 30 playtests.

Some clarifications:

When you absorb a broken formation you take on as many BMs as you do units. I had a line to this effect in earlier versions of the rule but removed it when cutting down the rule. I'll put it back in if needed.

A Synapse Swarm with no synapse can contest normally, it just can't control objectives. Again I can add that if needed.

I don't think we are at the point of stresstesting points cost yet (by spamming undercosted formations), I'm guessing Dave just posted a reworked Onachus list to have something to build for test games.

The focus should be on testing the special rules and stats, should it not? So rather than showing that 6 Harridans is broken, show that no -2 on rallies is broken. Test if absorption adds something or if it's just needless complexity.

I'd like to see some of these so-called abusive armies put to the test both by people who think it would work and not work. I recall several cases where spamming armies or min/max armies were sold on the forum as being the end-all be-all, but when they hit the battlefield they worked about as well as the Federal Emergency Broadcasting test we had yesterday (for reference, it didn't work). And who wouldn't want to play a game of Epic? :)
