Here's the latest update to the Leviathan list.

There are a dozen minor and major changes, but the biggest is probably the addition of a Spawning Queue. I know this is contraversial, but I've tested it several times and found it less fiddly than other methods, and it actually produces the right result; a randomly distributed spawning of units.

Anyway, let me know if you spot any obvious errors.

I Like the look of it from an initial skim of the list.

It would be handy to a reference sheet at the end to see the unit stats rather than having to flick through pages all the time.

I am not sure about the spawning line, however if you have tested it and it is not cumbersome, it does appear to be a fair way to do spawning.

My only other comment is the amount of different Carnifexes. At an Epic level, is it really necessary to have three different units of Carnifexes? Could they not be more representative rather than just a 40K representation at an Epic level?

Overall, great work Mr Z.

I like the queue. Sensible and practical. Looks effective. :)

There's a few odd word choices and misused words in the fluff (for example, twitches are 'tics', not 'ticks'). But otherwise it looks fine. Certainly nothing that impairs comprehension.

Very nice list.

Looking good :)

Question: How many upgrades can you purchase for Symbiotic and Independent Swarms? Can you purchase the same Upgrade more than once?

It's intended that each upgrade can be purchased once.

Good point. I do have have a reference sheet, I just need to update it.

I've tested it extensively recently, and it's worked well every time. It's no more fiddly than the multiple spawning pools Jaldon was suggesting, and it has the major advantage over all the other systems that have been tried in that it actually represents what it's supposed to represent. I've even had spawning being a bit of a disadvantage, when my Harridan Prime spawned a Biovore. Given that spawning (in my view) mostly represents lost creatures randomly coming under the synapse umbrella, this sort of thing should happen.

My opponents have not had any problems with the system either.

The whole idea of this list is to represent the modern 40k incarnation of the Tyranids, and varient carnifexes play a huge role in the modern list. More so than any other unit, they can be customised to fulfill different roles, and this list represents the three basic roles they can fulfill with three of the most common 40k builds. There are a great many other common varients that aren't represented here, but they're collapsed into those catagories. They're also effectively replacing the roles of the biotanks from the older style lists, which are absent here. The final reason is one of model availability.

Blame E&C, he wrote most of it years ago!

You should make this clear. You should write a "Using the Army List" paragraph at the beginning of the list in the same style as in the rulebook.

Yeah I'll do that in the next version.

I glower at him even as we speak!

It's ineffective, what with the Atlantic Ocean and half a continent being in the way, but still!

Looks good from a quick glance through. Multiple Carnifexes seems fine to me too - there are 4 different Chimera-chassis artillery tanks in the Guard list afterall.

Could you post up some army lists that you have used / might use with it? My tactics and gaming are rusty and I'm not sure which combinations work well together or not.

I'm trying to decide whether to complete my small tyranid army from the models I have or to scrap it sell them all (I keep changing my mind). If I keep them I'll probably use this list (though I'm curious to see what Epic-UK come out with in a couple of months too).

I usually go for a pick and mix list. At 3000 points I normally have something along the lines of:

A Hierophant
Harridan +4 gargs + 2 harpies
Tunnelling Trygon + 4 ravs
Genestealers
Lictors
Spore Mines
Then usually 3 or 4 normal swarms each focused for a specific task, e.g. a tervigon/hierodule + gaunts formation for spawning, a CC specialist formation (malanthrope, horms, raveners, fexes), all infantry shooty/ff formation (warriors/zoans, terms, biovores), mixed engagement formation (Tyrant + guard, gaunts, dakka/boomfexs)

The effect of the pseudorandom spawning can actually see the roles of formations change as the game goes on.

This is actually my favourite part of the list, with the easy parallel of Scythed/Haruspex,
Devourer/Malefactor and Barbed/Exocrine.

Yeah, that's largely the idea.
