This is the first of many threads looking to get agreement on tyranid unit stats.

HIVE TYRANTS

9.2.1:

Code:
HIVE TYRANT

Type Speed       Armour  Close Combat Firefight
AV   15cm (25cm) 4+ (5+) 3+           5+

Weapons         Range          Firepower       Notes
Venom Cannon    30cm           AP5+/AT6+
Scything Talons (Base Contact) Assault Weapons Extra Attacks (+1), MW

Notes: Commander, Leader, Fearless, Reinforced Armour, Synapse.
(A Hive Tyrant may have wings. If this option is taken it counts as having jump pack and its speed is increased to 25cm, however, its armour save is reduced to 5+. The different values for taking wings are shown in (brackets) above.)

Jormungandr:

Same.

Leviathan:

No Wings option

Onachus: Note: represents earlier style. Onachus stats are not being consolidated.

CC4+
No Wings option
Walker
Venom Cannon AP4+/AT5+

For Leviathan I felt the 9.2.1 stats were about right, but didn't feel the wings option was neccesary, as individual unit options are usually left out at epic scale, and the warriors don't have the same option. I know there is precident with the daemon prince, but I think that's a mistake too.

Onachus has Walker because the list has removed the Mobility rule. While I am almost always in favour of simplification of rules, I believe this is a mistake as it will slow down games by forcing many dangerous terrain tests.

I quite like the Onachus Venom cannon stats, but am not keen on the drop in CC.

It has historically been included so as to have an appropriate and (relatively) inexpensive Synapse Creature available for all kinds of swarms. The Tyrant was the only AV synapse creature, so it needed fast/slow options to work well with different kinds of swarms, e.g. slow for a Fex swarm garrison, fast for a biotank swarm. Without the option, there was either a serious hindrance to formation speed or SC vulnerability, resulting in iconic Nid units not appearing in army lists.

Whether that's still necessary or desired is possibly debatable. However, if it is, I would suggest 2 separate stat lines so they can be more fine-tuned than the "-1 armor/high move" formula.

I still think the winged option is useful to keep but I agree with Neal that they should be split to allow lists to choose.

I agree. Tyrant (and Warriors) should have Wing options.

Better would be separate stats. For use for a "Generic" and a "Winged" Synapse Group.

Please keep the winged as an option.

It is not something that 'bogs' down the list and is easily removed in the future if need be. There is really no reason not to keep it for now.

Which option Frogbear?
Winged isn't going to be removed as an option, just you pick a Tyrant or a Winged Tyrant (where the army list allows both). It really needs to be split as some lists (like Leviathan) don't want the winged version.

That's fine then. For lists that incorporate both, I just hope it is an option :)
