This is a little something I thought of last night and put it into Word today. I was a bit inspired by the beginning of my Epic Tyranid Army (Hive Fleet K'Tal). I hope you enjoy it.

FEED

The dark shape appeared in real space with a brief flash, spinning out of control. It struggled to right itself but the combination of momentum and the many gashes and wounds on its body oozing its life sustaining fluids into space made it a difficult task. The object rebounded off of the atmosphere of a small planetoid, sending it spinning on a different course towards a small group of planets orbiting a binary star. Slowly using almost all of its remaining strength, straining every ligament and muscular structure of its skeleton, it righted itself and gained control of its trajectory.

As the object slowed down, telepathic waves began to emit in a sonar-like fashion, pausing to listen for the faintest reply. The shape continued toward the binary star, repeating its telepathic pings into space and warp. The once oozing wounds started to close and the luminescent fluids stopped flowing into the void of space. FEED!

The creature continued to listen for any of the voices that had commanded, directed and protected it from its first cell’s division. Its natural stimulants started to build rapidly inside and its flesh began to pulse faster and faster. FEED! Survival instincts set in and the creature began to focus its telepathic waves searching for a suitable spot in which to rest. FEED!

As the faint echo of its mind faded, survival instincts set in, bone, sinew and flesh flexed and expanded and the creature changed course toward a phosphorescent green globe with a purplish gaseous halo. FEED!

Second dawn arrived on the northern part of the virgin planet. The warm temperatures of night became a hot, humid and thick atmosphere in the primordial forest. Streams of protein rich fluid formed translucent rivers and waterfalls. The only sound was of the abated winds fighting to flow through the vegetation. In an instant, the tranquility of the uncharted planet was shattered by an explosion in the sky and a ball of fire falling towards the depths of the jungle.

In its weakened state, the creature had gravely misjudged its trajectory into the atmosphere of its chosen target. FEED! Instinct had erased any and all thought or memory of its former mind. The shallow entry was creating tremendous friction and heat the fire searing its flesh and blistering its breathing sacs. As its speed decreased, the flames were extinguished by the hostile yet stable gasses making up the planet’s troposphere. FEED! The creature, driven mad with instinctive rage and hunger never noticed its inability to aspirate the gaseous mixture of this planet. FEED! Blurriness led to grayness led to the black depths of unconsciousness as the creature plummeted toward the jungle, landing with the full force of the planet’s gravity creating a crater in the soft, moist soil. Smoke, steam and stench rose form the crater where the creature lay lifeless, unmoving. In its primal drive to feed, it had destroyed itself. The uncharted galaxy returned to peace once more.

Second Dusk set with the greenish hues of first dawn arriving, the young white star elevated the planets temperatures even higher than its barely yellow brother. The air became an un-navigable cloud of chemical and water vapor blotting out the view, but not the light of the first star.

Invisible to all but the strongest nanoscopes, two strands of RNA were formed, RNA begot viri, viri coupled to form DNA. In a matter of minutes, death transformed into life as chromosomes and microbes formed and larger cells divided into and devoured smaller cells. As hours passed the cells became more and more complex and began to consume nutrients form the surrounding plant life and soil, causing a growing gelatinous circle to form around the crater’s edge. A billion years of planetary evolution seemed to pass in a the ours of first daylight with microorganisms growing form the microscopic to the visible, and the corpse of the creature disappeared as it was consumed by the new life.

Generations of the new organism grew in moments and were devoured just as quickly, gelatin turned to flesh, flesh to cartilage, and cartilage to chitin as each generation was born and consumed. Flagellum turned to tentacle, to bone, to claw, to scythe. First day became first dusk and first night.

Second dawn arrived once again with an eerie quiet. The once smoldering crater had cooled; leaving only glassified sand and charred soil where the creature landed. Two eyes opened in a deep burrow and a giant claw reached towards the daylight. Slowly the being emerged revealing a horrific feat of evolution. The young Dominatrix was silhouetted in the morning sunlight and mist, a pulsating, fearsome creature with white glassy flesh and sickening green-yellow unnatural carapace and spine. It looked around its new home and began to plan its brood. From an orifice hidden by flesh and chitin erupted one spore, another and yet another. The spores began to crack open and erupt a phosphorescent jelly. A single claw appeared above the edge of the shell. “FEED my brood, FEED!!”

The Astropath returned to consciousness awakend from his meditation by disgust and carnal fear. He reached to his left and took a towel to wipe off his drenched brow. Placing his psy-crown on the console in front of him, he reached to his right and picked up a white glasteel injection gun. He inserted a capsule of orange liquid and quickly pressed the injector to his temple pulling the trigger then placed it back on the table beside him. His mind was eased and his body returned to its normal rhythms. His father, a Veteran Astropath had taught him the mixture, rumored to be used by the legendary Grey Knights chapter of Marines for millennia to wrest control of their minds from fear. He closed his eyes for a brief moment the horrific image felt seared in his ocular implants. Slowly the image faded as he opened his eyes once again. He knew his next step may forfeit his life, but the Inquisition carried no fear after what he had seen. He placed his hands in the home position of his console surface and began his message.

This is the first thing of this nature I have ever written and definitely the first writing I have done since College 15+ years ago. I hope you have enjoyed it!
