If I were to allow  1 and just 1 Tyranid list in a tournement enviroment what should it be?

I am looking for the general concensus on wich current list is the most balanced compared to the current Imperial Guard, UK Tournement Space Marines, Eldar and Ork lists.

Please add your input and provide a link for the suggested list.

Thanks in advance :)

a common finding in our group is that if you do not know you are coming up against a 9.2.1 list, then you are probably going to lose.

It is the type of army you make a list against, rather than use a standard 'play with your mates' type of force

Sounds like the prime indication that a list is not balanced, isn't it?

That's the bit that puzzling me. 'cause in here Tyranids almost always lose against normal tournament army.

Any chance of a battlereport next time it's played? I'm curious as to what army compositions both sides are playing, and the strategies and choices made.

Hmm. Now that i think about past battle reports iirc the Tyranids seem to loose most of the time. Correct?   :sulk:

In our games, I found that unless the enemy knew they were coming up against nids, then I could over-run the opposition and simply wipe the table. I had trouble vs Orks (due to their numbers)

I did find out later that my force was over a War Engine allotment by about 50 points, yet that I believe is a failure of the list requirements (jumping through hoops) rather than a player error. If it were made simpler (a 12 year old could pick it up and play it), then we would not have these issues.

Simply put, take your Lictors, Harridans, a Titan (smaller) and then massed Broods, and you should be fine to move up that table for a 2nd or 3rd turn assault. Disposable units will mean that you get up there. It is hard seeing the positives to the nid list as a player, yet when faced against them, you realise their potential. As a group gets used to them and the 'meta-game' changes, it all balances out. The true test will be tournaments with players that are veterans of the game. Those people however seem to favour the established forces rather than fringe forces such as the nids - hence we may never see this realised.

Only in the UK.
Tournaments everywhere else have been allowing 'nids (of one list or another) for years.

Didn't Tyranids do rather poorly at Heavy Bolter?  That was against a wide variety of "tournament" lists, which were *definitely* not tuned to fight against Bugs, and the Bugs came in 15th out of sixteen armies... that doesn't seem wildly overwhelming to me!

In blind playtest, Tyranids have been losing more than they win, against players who have experienced play against/with Tyranids before.  A "newcomer" to fighting Tyranids is usually going to have a hard time, since tactics that work effectively against a lot of armies don't always work against Bugs, and some of the counters/tactics to fight Bugs are counter-intuitive.  It's the same difficulty when going up against Necrons of a drop-pod Marine army for the first time... it can *feel* completely brutal and unfair.

I'd love to see some of your group's armies and playtests, Frogbear, that are so dominating.

I have decided to include the suggested list for our friendly as well as tournement games.
I´ll try to come with some feedback on how it is to play with/against when possible :)

The counter-intuitive approach to playing against Tyranids is that one of the best tactics is to get up close and engage them reducing spawning by 50% and causing much needed formation breaks that are exceptionally hard with shooting alone.
