Can this be used in the 9.2.1 rules even though the list has no aircraft?

If not, is this ability factored into the cost or has it been taken out?

Chroma plans to add 'spaceships' to other lists that will have vituperator in them so planetfall is listed for completeness.

So I am still playing a full price for an ability I cannot use....

That really hurts when I have 5-25 points left and nothing to buy.

I am finding that it is not an army that you can afford to throw points away.

Since you can't use it in the Phase IV army, you're not actually charged for the ability, it's not considered at all in the point value in this list.

I assume you mean that "you can't use it" refers to Planetfall, because the 9.2.1 list I have puts the Vituperator in the Strike Group (Synapse Groups).

So if a Phase III Army was created, then the cost of the Vituperator would be increased to represent the Planetfall ability? Wouldn't it be more effective to have Planetfall as an upgrade for the Vituperator then? Instead of having the same unit with separate pricing?

There actually is a Phase III list, but it's on hold while the Phase IV list to be closer to completion.

As to the "same unit with separate pricing"; units keep the same stats, regardless of which army they're in.  Army list compostition and point value is how they are balanced in variant armies.  Just like Land Raiders in a formation of their own have a different cost than when used as transports.

And in the Phase III list, the planetfall ability is paid for by purchasing a Hive Ship spacecraft.

Yes, I mentioned "ability" in my response to frogbear, as that was what he was asking about.  The Vituperator unit *is* allowed in Phase IV.
