Okay, I know the claws on the EPIC Lictor are big... but are they Macro-weapon big?  Now, I know Lictors look terrifying on paper, but I've never really had a lot of great success with them... dang firefights!

So, all the options above are predicated on a stat of CC3+:

Macro-Weapon, all with first strike is how they stand now.

Sniper, in any incarnation, would give a -1 to the armour saves of targets hit, and could only be assigned to units actually in base contact with a Lictor due to the sniper rule targetting restriction.

Do all of a Lictor's attacks need to be first strike or would reducing it to just their extra attacks still make them a decent choice?  I'm of a similar mind for Genestealers, but, of course, it's open for discussion!

+1EA, All with first strike with Sniper instead of MW as I feel it's more suitable. I feel Lictors should be strong but restricted in numbers.

How do lictors fare against stuff like leman russ's and other heavily armoured tanks in 40K? THat's one of the more common units in epic with Reinforced armour and i wondered if it's 'realistic' that they fare better against them...2 attacks at 3+ with sniper first stike (no MW) should see off most of the lictors primary targets (i.e characters and specialists in formations) in EA!

I'm with MoK here. They should be good against infantry, but I am uncomfortable that they should be able to shred armour or titans in the same way (eg consider 12x MW first strike attacks on a Reaver!).

However, a separate question is their range. Is 15 cms sufficient, or would 20cms be more appropriate? The reasoning being that they have to get into CC unlike most other units, and that is quite a big restriction by itself.

Well, they can teleport and have infiltrator, so they can strike out 30cm from where ever they are placed, since their move is doubled when they charge.

You'd need 12 Lictors to get 12MW attacks... only their "extra attack" is MW, not their normal one... and 12 Lictors would 600 points worth of them... should be able to put a dent in a Reaver for that value.  *laugh*

Sniper really seems to be showing some popularity.

Due to the flesh hooks i'd be tempted to give them FF6 if they don't have it already.

I'd leave them without FF. Flesh hooks could be part of the reason for infiltrate as it allows the lictors to grab defenders into contact.

I was thinking that it may be more appropriate to allow them a movement of 20 cms for the same reasoning that was applied to all the other small critters; once on the ground, they have no other means of transport.

While this would give them an assault range of 40 cms, that is still less than the engagement range of other infantry of 45cms because of the additional 15 cms of FF capability.

No, I agree with Mephiston here that though attractive, I like the total lack of FF capability as the means of neutralising these beasts. As it is, they can still get lucky on the resolution dice, survive being assaulted and engage in some heavy duty murder.

Yeah, neither Lictors nor Genestealers will get any kind of "ranged" attack... until GW re-writes the Tyranid Codex again... *laugh*
