Hi everyone, long time lurker, first time poster...Anyway, I picked up a couple sprues (8) and loose genestealers off of ebay, because they looked like fun to paint.  I am currently finishing off a Blood Angels and Ulthwe armies, with Tau on deck (maybe some terrain inbetween).  But eventually, the nids will be on my work table.

I've already figured out a paint scheme, but I want to be able to field any army I paint...so, long post longer, can anyone give me a fairly decent 3000-5000 point army list.  And also, since eBay seems to be one of the prime sources for models (and there aren't as many as I'd like), what are good proxies for units that people use?

Any help is appreciated

Cheers,

I usually go with lots of the little stuff, but those come with a hefty price tag.

For 3000 points (and considering your 8 sprues) I'd go with at least 2 Assault, 1 Nexus and a Harridan.  That'll give you 675 points of synapse. You can still get another 325 of synapse though for a 3k game.

If you base 5 Term./Horm./Gar. to base you should have 16/8/8 of each, or 300/100/200 points (600 total).

Indenpendents you'll have 8 bases of GS and 8 Lictors or 200/400 points.

All that adds up to 1975.  Get a few of the bigger things and you should be all set.  Dactylis if you want artillery to soften up stuff you're going to assault.  Exocrine if you want AT.  Malefactors or Haruspex if you want AV support in your brood swarms.

People here have some Tyranids stuff for trade, feel free to ask around.  I still have some stuff left on my trade list.

Raveners are not a produced mini that one has to scratch build or proxy. In my case the Dollar Store up the street had 100 Plastic ants in a bag for $1.00 (Back legs off, little simple heat and bending, a metal tube through the back of their head so they can breath, make nice Raveners they do.) Three to a base.

Vituperators are also not a produced model, here local department stores, and the ever popular Dollar Store, are actually helpful. Roam the toy section, hey I am looking for a toy for my grandson so back off, usually has something that when painted will work and looks good.

Welcome aboard, DCD. I'm selling/trading my Nid army. I have many metal bugs including a Bio-Titan if you're interested.

Jaldon I would love to see a pic of your ant raveners as I am having a hrad time visualising them especially their metal tube breather.

Thanks for all the suggestions Dave.  I will definitely keep that in consideration.

Dwarf, I'd be interested in seeing what you have.  Like I said, the nids are pretty far down on the list for painting up, and I kind of want a comprehensive list formed before really splurging on models, maybe I'll browse the battle reports and see if that gives me any inspiration.

My other consideration is I'm running out of space for this hobby with my piles of "to be painted" models and terrain bits taking up more space than the girlfriend is comfortable with.  So either I get these armies painted up and done, or buy a house with a dedicated game/hobby room.  Or both.

Cheers,

RA

I bumped my trade thread, which lists all of my "haves" and "wants".
