Ok, I know what I'm talking about has been already discussed but well, I want to reopen it, if possible.

This is about flying unit in the nid army. I never quite inderstood why there is no "real" flying unit while we have a model with huge wing, the harridan. And in it's description it is said it can fly at pretty high speed. So again, I'm submitting a new profile, which I hope will catch attention.

Type : Aircraft/War Engine   Bomber
Save : 5+

Weapons
Harridan Twin Bio cannon
45cm
2 x AP3+/AT4+/AA5+ Fixed Forward Arc

Gargoyles Flock
15 cm
2x AP5+/AT6+/AA6+
Instead of firing with the gargoyles flock weapon, you can add a gargoyle unit to one synapse swarm within weapon range.

Notes: Damage Capacity 2. Reinforced Armour, Regeneration. Critical Hit Effect: The Flyridan's primary nerve plexus is destroyed: the creature is killed; it crashes 2D6cm away from it's current position in a random direction. Put a small barrage template where the harridant crashes. Any units under the template takes a hit on a 5+.

Now the comments: The flyridan is a big bird, so it doesn't fly as fast as a fighter, so I made it Bomber. And it's quite a huge bomber, with DC2, so the critical effect represent the tons of meats falling from the sky and crashing to the ground (instead of just explosing like other aircraft)

I kept the same weapon as the harridan, decreasing it's firepower but adding an AA ability, to prevent front interception.
I add the gargoyles flock strike, to keep the idea of dozens of gargoyles transported in the guts of the beast, which can either make suicide strikes on units or join a synapse swarm on ground.

And for the cost, I would say 150 or 200 points, counting in the independant limits. It's cheap, but he won't do much on the battleground.

Now, like the vituperaptor which seems to have been created from nothing (and come on, the name is bad, some one who vituperates just says bad thing about some else), why couldn't we create from nothing a decent fighter?
And with the difference cithe the vituperaptor, we have decent minis, called Prawler and Stalker drone, from BFG. They are cheap (11,5? for 3 guys) and a have a good look. And to finish my speech, the BFG tyranid hive-ship can launch fighters, to intercept enemy bombers, so why not transpose them to E:A. They are not described, so we can imagine anything.

So, i'm trying with this

Type : Aircraft   Fighter-Bomber
Save : 5+

Weapons
2 x Stalker Bio cannon
30cm
AP5+/AT5+/AA5+ Fixed Forward Arc

No special ability

They are Fighter-Bomber because they don't have the manoeuvrability of fighters. And they are a bit more resilient than standard fighter.

And basically, their weapons are two improved thunderbolts multilaser.

Cost would be around 250 for 3.

Well, I'm done for today, those thought are not complete, so be good and comment.

"High" speed is relative. If I look at an Fighter which is able to fly 2000++ the 300 of a bird (maybe a Hayabusa) is, let?s say it, neglecible. And for this reason Harridans are Skimmer per definition. They fly a speed more matchable to a helicopter like a Vulture Gunship (the archetype of a skimmer).

Sadly I have to say your proposal is not an option to me.

Soren

While it's an interesting, and even useful, design, one of the development restrictions Jervis placed early on for the Tyranids was "no flyers"; so no fighters or bombers at all I'm afraid.

This is similar to the Necron restriction of "no walking war engines"; makes armies/races different and allows "special" ways of dealing with other armies who don't have such restictions.

Thanks for you input and hope to see some battle reports from you!
