The probabilities between 4+ / 6+   and   5+ RA are nearly the same if I'm not mistaken... but one (I-savE) is fluffier?

The odds are similar but should the Zoanthrope have a chance of surviving a direct hit from a TK weapon? he would with Inv Save.

If not then I would go with 5+ RA, if so then lets go with 4+, Inv.

As his save is specifically a 'warp field' save in 40k, rather than any natural armour, I'm fine with 4+ / Invulnerable.

A zoanthrope only costs 35 points, I wouldn't make it any tougher or they start to look good just to soak hits. They are pretty good already IMO and I've used them with 5+ armour (and 4+ AP 30cm, 5+MW FF) in 3 games now.

Worth noting that in 40k they do tend to be popped fairly easily - few wounds and low toughness means that even small arms will cut them down quickly despite a 2+ save, and only a 6+ invulnerable really isn't that flash when the las-cannons and plasma start heating up :D  If they get tougher in epic then carnis and tyrants should be a lot tougher proportionally and points should go up - don't think that is a good idea. Main point is overall balance and maintaining a  'horde' army feel.

One question - should they have:

30cm AP4 OR 15cm MW5+

for their ranged attack?

So Markconz - are you suggesting we leave the thrope's armour at a straight 5+?

I agree with markconz "horde" feeling. I would prefer more cheaper creatures above fewer better creatures in a tyranid horde army.

Warp Blast / 30cm  /AP4+
And           / (15cm)/ small arms / MW

I've been using them like that and I have found them quite nice.  MW 5+ is particularly useful for supporting tyranid assaults, especially into cover or against hard targets. Maybe they should have a slight boost to their save if further playtesting bears that out, but so far I don't think they need it.

E&C sorry I don't understand your last post?

That was the most accurate weapon loadout for the Zoanthrope that we hashed out in this thread.
