No other list gives BTS for doing something essential to win against it. And because of that (coupled with relative weakness of our WEs) I don't see it good idea to use full DC for the BTS counting.

Hadn't thought of it quite this way before and this is a fair point.

Why don't we all test the 1/2 DC rounded up for now and get some feedback?

Hena has made a good argument here.

Just a note though: *all* Tyranid BatReps I've posted have used "Full DC" values for BTS when concerning Synapse war engines.

Dobbsy, so you mean if you inflict 1 wound on a Harridan it counts 1 towards the BTS? This makes the Harridan even less attractive than before!

Actually LB, I was aiming more at the non-DC synapse creatures when I said DC - probably a wrong wording.
I think I'll retract this idea.

Here's a new suggestion to the mix, the BTS value of each Synapse Group is equal to the max spawning value of that group.

So......

Hive Group is worth 6 (2d3)
Attack Group is worth 4 (D3+1)
Harrassment Group 3
Strike Group 4
Assault Group 3 etc..

To achieve this you must destroy the synapse creature(s) in the group; so killing a single warrior stand counts for nothing but wiping out the Assault Group is worth 3.
Ha! that's funny LB, I was going to make an edit to my post and suggest the exact same thing! but I figured no one would even listen to the proposal :D

edit- Sorry, but I'm confused now what DC/2 rounded up means(the problem with reading while still waking up) in regards to BTS resolution.

Also, Chroma can we re-word the BTS paragraph to say "if the number of dead Synapse creatures outnumber the live ones then BTS has been achieved." ? It seems less wordy.

I unfortunately had to read it twice to get the full comprehension of it and itstill hasn't helped me understand DC/2 proposal.. :(

So... As an odd suggestion: What about making it so if you have a Dominatrix on the field, she alone counts for BTS. But if not, you go with the 'half Synapse destroyed' effect? Dominatrix can take multiple bio-WE for protection, and at 2D3 basic spawning, if combined with Myecetic Spores or being more then 30cm from the enemy, has a good chance to respawn a Heirodule killed in the last turn. This also seems to fit with the style of other lists in that if you bring a big war engine (Warlord Titan, Harvester Engine, Warlock Titan, Great Gargant, etc) it WILL be your BTS. And seems to better represent just how important the Dominatrix is to the hive fleet's attempts to take the world.

Dunno if it'd be better or worse, but I figure it'd be interesting to see.

Ilushia, the thing is a Dominatrix can be killed with a single lucky AT6+ shot (like a passing junkatruk).

No other army has such a vulnerable BTS goal and despite the loss of a Dominatrix on the battlefield it is not going to actually 'break the spirit' or alter the desire for killing of the rest of the horde of tooth and claw.

I would recommend we try the 1/2 DC rounded up and give Chroma some feedback to work with.

You need two 6 criticals to kill it :D.

I know of some hydraphant killing, synapse slaying basilisks that would do that...

Put Meat Shields... that's the Tyranid style of shields! around the Big Girl and she should last a bit... *laugh*

Though I've seen a *lot* of Bio-Titans die... don't they seem a little... well, unimpressive at times?  I suppse they're cheap.

Basically 2 Hydraphants for around the cost of a Warlord isn't all that bad.

About Tyranid Titan(Hydraphant and Hierophant)'s critical.
It may be a poor idea, but...

How about "Always Remove Regenerate at first critical" and "lose one more DC" thereafter?

It represents titan's vital organ is shot, and they are bleeding lots of alien blood (their regeneration are used for surviving blood loss, thus they lose an ability to regain DC).

I guess, instant kill criticals mean "head shot" or "heart piercing shot".
But "unlucky death" is not so happy or enjoyable for many players.
Titan's plasma engine damage, Gargant's fire, Eldar's losing holofield...
Almost all titan critical mean "Slowly death" or "faster way to death".
(Battle titan's explosion  may be instant death, but they have time until its roll)
If hydra and hiero lose their regeneration, they die faster than normally.

Please forgive me if this idea was already tested...
(I looked lists of many version, but not all)
And of course "small"WEs shoud have instant death critical,Yes.

Excellent points maruma. That articulates the sort of thoughts I've had.

I agree with Hena's Carnifex and Trygon suggestions.
