Ok playing devil's advocate here but barring all the pedantics of this leviathon wording discussion, the Nids are too complicated so can we please simplify them?

How would you accomplish this? I don't see removal of important specials as helpful (such as fluid swarms).

The French removed the fluid swarms, and they're apparently very happy with their list.

Do fluid swarms actually happen in games regularly?

Yep, it's a hugely important element of the ERC army list.

The spawning part, yes. But what's with attaching synapseless broods to other swarms? Intermingling swarms transferring broods to each other?

Well then what ideas do people have that could potentially solve this (these problems).

Gargoyles (background) operate both in Synapse swarms and as forward scouts with Harridans. Gargoyles have to exist in both formations. The only alternative I can see is to give the Harridan Synapse but limit it to gargoyles (so call it Synapse-Gargoyles), the Harridan still comes out of Independent but can have common brood gargoyles attached to it during swarm creation (and later by creature passing).

As to Raveners and Trygons in Synapse and Independent Swarms the only alternative I can see is to drop them both as brood creatures as neither can have synapse but that would require reverting all LV creatures to Inf as well.

To be honest I don't think people (mainly opponents) would particularly like the French list (at least from the last translation by Hojyn) as you can't take out a swarm via synapse assassination and the unit limits are a lot more relaxed (Full AV and/or WE swarms are possible).

The list construction is obviously something we'd work on if we adopted the french list.

I think opponents would be much happier playing against it, if only because with a little alteration they might actually be able to understand it.

Synapse is still vitally important to the French Tyranid list, as (like the Leviathan proposal) it provides a +2 bonus to inititative tests.

Without Synapse, your army is unlikely to do what you want it to do.

Swarms never really get wiped out by killing the synapse currently anyway, they just march off and join another formation. This is not an option in the French list (or the Leviathan one), as once the synapse is gone you're stuck at initiative 3+ and not being able to contest/capture objectives. In many ways it's a bigger penalty for losing synapse.

The current rules here make a more different army than others - unlike the French rules which are meant to play sort of like orks - and such variety in playstyle is a plus in my eyes.

E&Cs sarcasm aside, I tend to use it in almost all games.

I wasn't being sarcastic, the fluid swarms is a hugely important part of the ERC army list. When using the ERC army list I use it on every turn of every game, in some manner.
