They would strike me as waaay too big.

I'm thinking of doing a volume test though with a Warlord titan and a Warrior/Carnifex to see the difference. I bet the Warlord comes in between the two.

That and I already gave away the extra 'nids that I could have used... Doh.

Cheers!

Well, Hierodoles are 3DC war engines, so they'll be *kinda* big.

Here are pics of mine using Termagant bodies, the hex bases they're on are about the same size as a normal GW small base.  The Trygon and Hierodules are of comparable size to IG super-heavies.

Trygon and Hierodules

I don't think they're too large for use.

Considering the way the sprues were laid out, I'd rather stick with the current way of 4 brood creatures per cluster.

4 Sprues gets you 2 Termagant clusters and 1 each of Gargoyle and Hormagaunt with nothing wasted.

Also, some people (like me   ) have already had to paint a few more of each brood in order to adapt their army to the new list. I'd have to either have to paint more or resign myself to have extra, unusable units.

Selfish opinion but I'm probably not alone. Well, hopefully.  :p

I like the "clusters" system, and so did Jervis, but one thing that was brought up was that if GW ever released those sprues, it would probably be a set of "three", to make a single three unit "Synapse Group" of three-model Tyranid Warriors.

So... I've been thinking about going to a cluster-size of three for the Common Broods.

Just finished a 5K game of Tyranids vs Guard and here's our observations.

1) Heirophant and Hydraphant are waaay too cheap for points. They pretty much dominate the game since they can be all over the place and require as much killing as a Titan twice their cost.

2) Spawning doesn't have much effect. It's a nice idea but the time spent generally isn't worth it to get a couple of stands back. I like that when you fling a swarm at someone that swarm often melts away leaving some broken synapse running away back to the Hive nodes

3) The Haruspex/Exocrine/Dactylis/Malefactor way of getting a Tyranid tank unit running is very cool but there just isn't any way to get a bunch of them actually running around, even at 5000 points. I don't know if I'd even have any at 3000 points. I'd almost prefer it if they were move 15cm so they could Garrison and not waste 2 turns getting anywhere.

Anyway, that's our take at it all.

Cheers!

Having just finished an Tyranid vs Guards game myself, I have to agree with Hena and Tepoc. I would go for a 25 cm move on the assault spawns. After all, why would the Hive Mind waste energy on creating SLOW assault monsters. They feel a bit sluggish, and easy to out-manoeuver.

Yeah, I just want to have my Tyranid Tank Company of Assault Spawn... I wouldn't mind them losing the RA at all if they got cheaper so I could have more of them, right now they're just really numerically vulnerable to sniping AT MW/TK shots.

Overall I think the list is very good.

Though if you want to solve the problem of brood sizes why not just say 150 points gets you 1 unit of Tyranid Warriors, 2 units of Termagaunts, 1 unitof hormagaunts and 1 unit of Gargoyles?

Can you imagine how that would work? Put them on a swarm size like Ork warbands at 1x, 2x, and 3x and see what happens. Add 0-1 uncommon brood per size in the same way. I mean there's a perfectly good dynamic for building horde armies, why has it not been adapted? Sure you could spam 1x swarms and spawns comstantly but they would always be overwealmed in assaults.

Has anything like that ever been tried?

You could even organize it like a hive with Each Dominatrix having 1-3 Hive Tyrants and Each Hive Tyrant allowing 1-3 swarms then the independent and titans making up the difference. You probably wouldn't end up much different but the formations would feel more swarmy.

Cheers!

The "French Epic Rules Committee" has put together a Tyranid list like that; more info here: F-ERC Tyranids

It's in the process of being updated by Lionel, I believe.

I'm not convinced the Bugs need to follow the "Ork model" of organization, I find it too restricting on swarm composition in that Tyranids would probably often just grab what's handy not follow an "organization table" of Broods.

But, as always, everything is up for debate.

I plan to post a v9.2 in the near future; the French debate has delayed that slightly as their ideas are discussed.
