Jaldon:  I think I wasn't clear earlier.  My suggestion was to only allow break in coherency when the Tyranid player declares an Engage action.  Keep the synapse coherency at the end of the assault.

In any other situation, including if the Nids are the target of an assault, normal coherency and synapse coherency applies.

Keep the exception to a single, highly restricted case to avoid complications.

Now I got it thanks for clearing it up, good point.

If so, then it still doesn't address disallowing move to outside of synapse range (v7.1 doesn't prevent it anywhere).

It was a typo addressed in the old forum long ago, and WILL be in the v7.2 I am working on "During the turn all Swarms must maintain both normal and synapse coherency in any actions they take."

The key words here are in ..actions they take, not actions taken against them.

This actually enforces Neal's point even and does make the second paragraph un-needed.

Without the Nid Brood Creatures forced to remain in coherency they DO end up running Willy-Nilly all over the place. AND it isn't all that hard to have Synapse all over to keep them in control, I have seen it done many times. Once accomplished it doesn't end up costing the Nids anywhere near enough creatures to hand the opponent the BTS goal.

While this does accomplish the stated desire of making them a Horde Army, alone it restricts the Nids far too much in their primary method of combat, CC Assault hence the special assault rule.

In effect the rule would then be much simpler, and have only a single exception.

The rational behind it is easily explained. The Hive Mind would without question hurl their Brood Creatures beyond Synapse Control in an assault as the Brood Creatures instinctive behavior would take over in the immediate attack accomplishing the stated goal of the assault (w/o synapse control needed). The only question would then become how many of them could they get back under control. This rule covers both aspects of this.

As I stated before with Synapse Coherency enforced the Nids cannot fully use their assault abilities per Infiltrator/20cm move. Without SYnapse Coherency enforced they become almost as mobile and flexible as the Eldar Army, and this is not what a Horde Army should be able to do.

Thanks All.......

Jaldon :p
