Even more confusing is bulletproof glass. You can see it but somehow you can`t walk through it too

Bullet proff glass is actually the counter for flying tyranids.

They develope wings.

The imperium puts up windows for the flyrants to fly into.

The Tyranids would counter that in developing Termagants sticking black bird-of-prey shaped stickers on the windows

You're making me want to buy it just to see what the fuss is about...

Had two previous which was all a bit pointless though.

Well, they essentially take away a lot of the "mystery" about the Bugs... not sure why.

And, stuff like the "Swarmlord", a special character that is, essentially, the "first" Hive Tyrant; which the Hive Mind can send to any place It needs by growing it a body and downloading its memories... especially if there's enemy champions that need some one-on-one fighting... *sigh*

Or that the Ymgarl Genestealers are unique Tyranid "shape-shifters" that can instantly and individually adapt to the enemy.

It's just a bunch of little things that add up to... well... disappointment.

There's really been nothing so far in the book, either flavour, rules, or new stuff, that's made me go "Now *that* is a cool addition!"

Ugh... just read the "Deathleaper" entry... it's a "super-Lictor"... and it "instinctively" knows that killing the Cardinal of a world will create a martyr... so it just keeps terrorizing him by killing everyone around him... FOR TEN DAYS!

I like the concept that we're just as "alien" to the Tyranids as they are to us much better than the Hive Mind understanding terrorism and heroism... *sigh*

Agreed, Chroma, agreed.

But as we have multiple flavours of the same Shining Knight in Space, all enemies must be multiple flavours of the moustache twirling arch-villain who does bad to be bad and is just the mirror of the Shining Knight.

Tyrannofex is effectively the Exocrine/Malefactor but I don't think it's quite CC oriented enough to be a Haruspex and there is still no Dactylis equivalent.

The feel I get is we're getting too old for the 40k age group. First there's the super world killing creatures (Doom and Parasite mostly) who seemingly can destroy entire worlds near single handed. New fleets are welcome but effectively rewriting Behemoth has gone too far. Where once was mystery as the Tyranids were unknown and described but not given names we now get a listing of tyranid creatures. New players obviously can't work out in a story what a gaunt is and have to have it spelled out, it should be called "My First Tyranid Book" (Because Beastiary is a big word).

Uhm yes i ment Malefactor (the FF beast)  :;):

@Deathleaper: Well if you are a Lictor and suck out the brains of your victims to gain information it somewhat happens that you "instinctively" know how the people on this planet think.

No but they (at least the Lictor) understand how their prey thinks. That's one of the main reasons why the Lictor exists in the first place: gather information. And he does so by eating his victims brains.
In the Deathleapers entry it says that he hunted down several humans before he strikes at the cardinal.

The nids have always known about prey thing leader beasts (read battlefield commanders) and to assassinate them.  So hunting the cardinal makes sense.

They have also bred in behaviour responses to their tyrant guard that make them beserkers whent they tyrant dies.

Such a reponse has also been seen in the prey things when certain leader beasts are killed.

The hive mind has learnt which leader things make the prey gaunts (civies and infantry) act in such a way and knows not to assassinate them, but to let them have accidents.

Just like if a flyrant is by itself and flies into a window, then nearby tyrant guard do not care.

The Cardinal isn't hunted... the Deathleaper just kills everyone around him, showering him with blood and gore, to drive him insane over the course of ten days.

Just seems ridiculously contrived and un-Tyranidy... seems like something more the Dark Eldar or even Chaos forces would do.

You may like the story, but I simply don't.

He doesn't hunt his body (he doesn't kill him).
He hunts his mind (he drives him insane).

So no worrying about fanatic prey things. Instead there are desolate and hopeless prey things. Much easier to eat.

It shows that the Hive Mind is capable of developing other tactics than pure HULK SMASH! HULK EAT! strategy.
